Yeah, wow. That's an amazing piece of work. Even if it took the person 5 years I would be impressed.

Thanks! Antlers are carved. The whole purpose of this piece, other than trying to make one look as real as possible and have a good time creating it, was for it to represent what a new World's Record Whitetail would/could look like. Pretty much destroys that record...if it were real.

The whole piece is made up of 36 pieces (antlers, body, ears, tree, roots on the base) all glued and screwed and doweled together. Of course no joints or attachments are visible and some took some time to get them that way. There's actually a glue joint that runs right down the middle of the deer's body right across his face in fact. Reason for that is you can't buy wood thick enough for a piece such as this so gluing it together is a must.

Here's a pic of the base. "'Roots' are 2 pieces of 3/4" birch ply glued together for strength then shaped. Then screwed, doweled and epoxied to the tree (which is also carved). In fact everything is 'made' on the piece. Leaves and grass are made from brown paper grocery sacks. Dirt is hydraulic cement and crushed kitty litter (had to keep my cat away from it! HA!). Deer is removeable from the tree for transporting.

And here's a pic of when I just started. This is for the body. If I only knew how many hours lay ahead of me at that time!!

Marc and I have chatted several times over the years, especially when I was first getting hooked up with Predator and then later with Gray Wolf Woolens. He is the designer and creator of the original Predator patterns, and eventually left the company after not agreeing on the direction his partners wanted to take it.

I've always enjoyed any conversation I've had with him, and he is truly an incredibly talented individual!

This was a truck owned by Marc at one time which he later sold... Man, I'd have given my eye teeth to have bought this sucker, as huge a Predator Fall Gray fan I am!!!
