View Full Version : Rangefinder Class....YES OR NO....
BUNNYMAN 04-02-2008, 09:06 PM So we are in the process of making some changes at our club......
and one of my thoughts is ADDING a R.F. class.......
so for you guys who have allready added it, did it do anything for Attendance??good or bad??
Do you think it will bring the back yard archers out???
Holy Smokes 04-02-2008, 09:12 PM Hopefully it will allow tha newbies to come out and not waste there arrows and help them to learn how ta judge yards
say judge it first then range it.:noidea:
Wheely 04-02-2008, 09:12 PM OR how 'bout a GPS class? I think range finders are fairly easy to use (oops, I think I voted wrong, let's blame it on the wine)

BUNNYMAN 04-02-2008, 09:32 PM Wheely, meant a RF class where you get tobring you Rangefinder and use it during the shoot......
firechic 04-02-2008, 10:48 PM I don't think many people will go for it.... but if they do it would be an interesting class. What about having a how to and the techniques of judging yardage class?
Why not save the trouble and have a mark yardage class. They sign up up give them a cheat sheet. Easyer to hide a marked card then a RF that has big red numbers for all to see. lol
There goes the money class.
tedicast 04-03-2008, 05:27 AM Algonquin archers is the only club that I know of that has a R.F'er class. Not many people shoot it at all. We had 180 shooters, and 3 signed up for rf'er class. 2 of them, including myself, signed up becasue we set up the course. I think it is a great idea for the non diehard 3D shooter, but it seems very under utilized.
My thoughts would be to try it for one shoot, and see how it goes.
BUNNYMAN 04-03-2008, 06:12 AM and this is why they are UNITS:frusty: :frusty: :frusty: :frusty: :frusty: :frusty: :frusty: :frusty:

3 huh? well then, I was thinking there was more:noidea:
dbdcougar 04-03-2008, 06:22 AM Why not. I'd go 2 classes; one from the yellow stakes and one from the blue stakes. Could be instructive.
trussoni 04-03-2008, 06:25 AM yes it would be im bind in one eye and cant see with the other
JDX-- 04-03-2008, 06:32 AM What’s kind of interesting is that the Redding Shoot in Redding CA. Draws in one of the largest crowds for a national event and it’s all marked yardage 3D..
Just a thought
JDX-- :peace:
trussoni 04-03-2008, 06:44 AM if the yardage is marked why would you need one?
JDX-- 04-03-2008, 07:21 AM I am not that big of an idiot, you don’t need both just a RF class or Marked just stating that they have pulled in a big crowd, and you are right you would not need a RF if it’s marked, but was referring to the attendance of the two which you could compare. A RF class would be necessary versus marked yardage in order to run an event without having to have a whole separate course set up thus more cost effective if you want to run both venues.
JDX--
Wheely 04-03-2008, 10:02 AM I shot nothing but marked yardages (that's all they had in CA) and I liked it. It makes it a challenge of who shoots better instead of who judges yardage better. :D
Wheely 04-03-2008, 10:04 AM Wheely, meant a RF class where you get tobring you Rangefinder and use it during the shoot......
no, I meant a GPS class for hunting. How many people actually know how to use one properly?
I wasn't trying to hi jack, just throwing out class ideas.
Ronhop 04-03-2008, 07:01 PM I'm with Smokes first response. I think it could remove some of the intimidation a lot of new people to the sport experience. Although range finders are not cheap. Maybe hand out printed yardage info on the shoot to the folks that resgister in that class. That would be easy to put together if somebody had a finder while they were setting targets and stakes up.

TiYogi has a RF class...they don't get too many in it either but they think it's an option worth offering.

They did last year when they started it, but now it's just on the board at sign in...They got beat up over it last year by a couple guys when they started doing it, not sure what their problem with it was...???

Maybee-R 04-04-2008, 10:02 AM If it is a R/F class how do you keep the other classes from sharing the info?
We have a Saturday regular 3/d and Sunday marked Yards or your own range finder. It hasn't really caught on yet but maybe a couple of more years people will open up. I think it will be another class that doesnt get enough shooters to pay for awards.:noidea:

wow! I can be so dumb sometimes...I couldn't figure out why you were going to have a RF "class" (a place to learn)
I see what you mean now
I think you should just have the whole shoot be Ranged if you are going to do it at all. Allowing Rangefinders to only one class? Others not in the class will definately over hear ranges and this will make it unfair.

Scottyluck 04-04-2008, 03:09 PM It's a good idea as long as you advertise that you have a rangefinder class. I think that's why it doesn't catch on.
As far as sharing info, I'm sure it can happen. Just ask the group up front not to do it. The easiest way is to have the RF guys shoot last in your group. That way the others have already shot.
You NY clubs have a lot of trouble getting participation. I think this could only help, again, as long as you advertise it.

I do think it's a good idea, and there really isn't anyway to police cheating...if someone wants to cheat they will
as far as drawing more shooters all we can do is try it and see...:noidea: :biggrin1:

hey, this poll is still open....:peace:
we used to have alot of fun here...
srj26 03-23-2011, 02:05 AM I think its a good idea. Just needs to be advertised as a beginner class. I was worried about losing arrows at my first outdoor event this year but soon lost the fear after finishing the day without a singal missed target. I know alot of guys at work that have always wanted to try 3d shooting but but don't have a lot money to spend on arrows. I think the RF class would get more of the budget concious shooters to come out and have some fun.
just my 2 cents. :usa:
bfisher 03-23-2011, 08:10 AM I didn't vote because around these parts nobody has added an RF class, but I still think it would be a good idea. It was brought up that it would help eliminate the intimidation factor for new shooters and help them lose less arrows. This supposedly to keep them from losing and having to buy new arrows all the time. Well, range finders aren't cheap either and not everybody has them so this is where I would favor a printout of the yardages as ranged during the course setup. Make it optional and if at all possible lump those shooters together that desire to shoot that class which would help keep down the cheating. This might not be the only option, but getting people out to shoot is what it's all about so it's worthy of trying.

Compound Comedian 03-23-2011, 09:54 AM I have NO problems with LRF's for 3D as long as 3D shooters using LRF's take a box of kotex, cut 1 side of the tampon box and affix it to themselves with tape like the number on a marathon runner.

Didnt you get banned from AT like 8 or 9 times for your comments on marked yardage???
