Apparently, there are a couple of ways to eat a carp. Pressure cooker seems to be the most popular (makes the bones soft). I've also had it smoked....though there's a "trick" to cleaning them...I think.

I can honestly say I don't know how to do it, but I've eaten it and it was tasty. There was an old black fella near where we used to do some commercial netting and he'd take every carp you gave him happily, then heckle us for not knowing how to eat such a tasty fish. I always meant to sit down with him and persuade him to share his secrets, but I stopped going on the netting runs.

Any of the older guys/gals around here know the secret to making carp good eatin?

yeah, here is what you do....

this is a recipe thats been handed down to me from my grand PAPPY

CEDER PLANK BAKED CARP

1 large carp
5lb container of salt
pepper
any other sesoning you like on fish
piece of cedar big enough to hold the fish

First soak the board in water for a few hours so it doesnt FLARE up
then once the fish is cleaned real good season the fish to you liking

then you want to completly cover the fish in the salt, making a what looks like a fish shaped snow ball.

put in a 450d degree oven for 2 hours

take out of the oven and uncrust the fish from the salt.

throw the fish away, put some pepper on the board and EAT the board, cus there aint no way this boy is eating a freakin carp

I've eaten a lot of carp and buffaloe. We always just scaled them then fillet them, and scored them real fine, breaded them in yellow corn meal with a few added spices, deep fried them (put the scored part down, skin side up when dropping in the oil, they will turn over and float toward the top when done. The small bones left after the filletting will cook up.Have a bunch of green onions, corn bread and beer with them and they are great.

When I was a kid we used to go carp fishing down at a local river and the guy who owned the chinese restaurant in town would give us $5 a piece for them...as many as we could catch. He said we were crazy for not eating them ourselves. :biggrin1:

That's hilarious.

Smoked carp is really good... Might just have to scare some up for the Wabash shoot...

Nice mess of fish guys. That looks like a blast. I have the same bow setup, more or less, but I have not used it yet. The weather around here has been incredibly unpredictable but bowfishing here is pretty popular and I look forward to flinging the 'lincoln log' arrow into the muddy Mississippi.

Boy! There are a lot of fussy eaters here. I bet they've never even eaten a Brain Sandwich on Rye with onions, pickles and mustard either. HMMMMMM GOOD!

Or scrambled with eggs for breakfast.
