Hello All,

I am new to this forum. I am an Archer with a really long draw length--34". I am currently in the market for a new bow, as my 13 year old Clearwater Powermag is getting a bit outdated.

Unfortunately, It has been difficult finding a bow in my draw length, yet alone finding one that I can try on a shelf without special ordering it first. I am currently considering two different bow models that are made in my draw length.

Hoyt Protec with XT3000 limbs and Cam 1/2

This looks like a really nice bow with a 40" ATA length. However, I have never shot a deflex riser, and don't know if this should be a concern or not. The Cam 1/2 bows that I have drawn back seem to draw really nice and smooth.

Mathews Prostar

The Mathews Prostar is a bow that Mathews manufacturers, but does not list in there catalog or website. It looks like a nice bow, but is quite long at 46" ATA, with a 9 inch brace height. The downside is that it is a bow that peaks out at 55 lbs according to the Mathews Tech Support.

I also really like the looks of the Hoyt TRYKON XL, but to my knowledge it only comes in a 32" draw length. I don't know if it is possible to put a longer set of custom cables & strings to gain additional draw length without drastically affecting the performance of the bow. I really like the Parallel Limb features on this bow, but also think the short ATA would have a severe arrow pinch effect with the longer drawlength as well.

Anyways, I am looking for some advice on a new bow. If anyone else knows of a good bow recommendation in a 34" draw length, please let me know. I am eager to order my new toy

you must be one really BIG fella. I doubt this would help you as yours would have to be 2 inches or better but my buddy has an lx that the d/l was a lil short so he had the loop lenghtened. But im not sure a 2 inch loop would be good:noidea:

When you inquired about the Prostar didthey tell you what speeds you would likely get??? 55lbs and 34" sounds like about 280-290 maybe?

I don't know of any bow that comes in a 34" draw off the top of my head. I don't think the protec comes that long either.

I have to ask, how tall are you? You must be a big one!

Without making specific recommendations I would point you toward Martin archery. They make several bows that reach 34", and maybe even one or two that go to 35". Mostly what you are looking at in their lineup is a ShadowCat, RazorX, both in Elite series. The Cougar Elite goes out to 33".
A2A on these bows is more reasonable for your needs also.

You mention that you never shot a deflex riser. Don't sweat it. It just makes a bow smoother and more forgiving. With your drawlength you'll still have plenty of speed.

Well, I am a fairly sizeable guy....6'7" and about 350lbs...

From Hoyt's Literature they state that the Protec with XT3000 Limbs, and the Cam 1/2 will go to 34"

I was a little dissappointed in my local Archery Pro Shop that tried selling me a Trykon XL at 32" and installing a loop. I would have thought they may have recommended some options for different bows, but did not offer anything.

I miss the old Archery Pro Shop I went to 13 years ago when I bought my Clearwater Powermag. I went into that facility with my old Martin, and wanted a tune-up. The Bow Tech looked at the bow, and looked at me, and looked at the bow again....He said we can tune the bow, but it does not come close to fitting you properly. Needless to say he custom ordered me a bow with a 4" longer draw length than I was currently shooting, and my whole Archery skill level improved greatly. Unfortunately, that shop went out of business about 6 years ago.

I would gladly spend more money for my archery equipment If I had a reputable bow shop with great customer service. However, it seems as those are kind of hard to find.

Well I went on Hoyt's and Matthews websites. I found nothing close to your D/L. At Hoyt's website I found two bows that came closer than matthews.

1. ProTec 33" D/L
2. ProElite 33 1/2" D/L

I belive they can come with XT2000 limbs. Hope this helps.

Check into the XForce Long Draw by PSE, it might what you are looking for. I think you can get 33 and then some out of it.
