I have shot Steelhead 100's for years. They are about the best head (fixed or mechanical) ever made and have killed a ton of deer. Then Trophy Ridge bought out Rocket and here is what has happened so far.

Ordered 2 packs last year. One pack had three heads that the blades would not open. They were in the ferrule so tight I had to use pliers to pull them open.

I called Trophy Ridge and they sent me out 2 new packs. When they arrived I found they had put the wrong blades in and the cutting diameter was 1 1/2" instead of 1 1/8. When closed the blades were stuck way out in front of the point.

I called Trophy Ridge and they sent me 2 new packs. By then the season was over so I put them away for this year. Last week I got them out in order to get them ready for a mule deer/antelope hunt I am going on and guess what? Wrong blades. There were now 1 1/4" cutting diameter and locked straight out from the ferrule at 90 degrees instead on sweeping backward.

I called Trophy Ridge and explained the situation and also said I really needed the new heads by the end of the week. They promised they would ship them that day and I would have them in 2 days. Well they didn't arrive so I went and bought 2 packs while at the IBO Worlds. Bought them home and guess what. One of the blades on each of the 3 heads in one pack is stuck closed. The only way to get them to open is loosen the screw and keep them loose.

Trophy Ridge took a great Broadhead and ruined the quality control. Either that or I have the worst luck in the world!

I do have 6 older original Rocket Steelheads to take but in the future will probably just buy Snypers.

Those heads are the only ones I ever had SELF DESTUCT on a spine shot on a deer.....

NOT that I ment to do it....:laugh:

Have you ever shot Spitfires (no o-ring) or Grimm Reapers??

both are great heads and I think you will be pleased....

I myself have gone back to MUZZY's and I dont know why i ever shot anything else.......

Nope, not on Archery Talk. I am trying to spread the word so that other bowhunters don't end up using heads that may not function properly. Not everyone checks their broadheads out carefully before screwing them on and if the blades are the wrong size or stuck closed bad thing can and will happen.

You won't see me with anything but fixed.

Dude I am sorry to hear of the misfortunes you have encountered. Hope you get taken care of correctly. But I have been shooting Muzzy's for years and just will not leave them until they give me reason to. GOOD LUCK fellow archer.:peace:

Post some pics so I fully understand what it is you are talking about.

Trophy Ridge has taken a slide in the last coupel of years.
They used to have some GREAT sights, now they just have the average run of the mill stuff.
My best bud uses rockets and he's had great success with them. But his are before TR 'consumed' rocket...

Good luck with that. It sounds at least like TR is trying to make things right. You you think that they would think right=right though and not keep sending you crap. Talk about bad press...

The one on the left is 1 1/8" cut and is swept back as it should be.

The one on the right is 1 1/4" and the blades stick straight out at a 90 degree angle. This is wrong!

have you weighed them?

look at G5 tekan 2 heads solid steel tips and razor sharp blades. My cousin shot them last year and they do there job VERY well. i just swapped from NAP spit fires to the G5.
