Yardage judgement is easy

Think about this one>>>------->

I throw a football and hit the guy in the hands, NO ONE TOLD ME HOW FAR HE WAS but I hit him in the hands no matter where he is (as long as I can throw that far):peace:

So what in the brain is telling me how far to throw and how do I use that for my 3d archery.......

The Hood is gunna get you going on this one..........

You want to learn a little Hoodigy??

It dont matter if its a football of a dirt clod, you throw it the distance your eye's and brain says...

Now how do you make that work in archery???

don't think I won over 28 major 3d's by just being able to shoot an x's. You got to know how far it is.............

Hoodigy, fall of 2008,,coming yer way

you ever hear, my first guess was the right one?

wonder why that is:noidea:

It takes a lot of trust in yourself to just walk up and take what you first think the yards are, The problem is,,that when it's on the line,,you second guess your self and talk your self out of what your brain is sending.

and yeah 12ringer, I like to bait the game

I got it the first time:D

Ok, The fact is, you can throw about anything and hit what you are aiming at,,,Pretty close anyway:faint:

Now this ain't no overnight MASTERING

It well take alot of your time to figure out.

A softball is the best practice tool!

throw a softball at a target 20 yards away,:noidea: I bet you'll never forget how far that is, and what it takes to throw that far, Now put the target at 22 yards:welcome:

The differnent between yards is going to be installed in your memory bank and all you need to do to open that bank is act like you're going to throw the ball,,when you get on the stake:usa2:

just take a baseball out to the pratice range with you sometime and see what clicks:frusty:

This is step one in yardage judgement Mastering

The step out, X out, vision apparents and Vitamim C all play a big part in it too:noidea:

you are absolutely right about the first guess. I have been shooting a few local 3D shoots the last few years. first love is spots. but liking 3D more each time I shoot one. dont claim to be a 3D pro but if I go by my first guess and miss it will usually be left or right. had to force myself to shoot this way and for me it works.

people always try an make it harder then it is.

over think things

like I said, can you throw a ball to someone and hit them in the hands? NO matter what distance it is. How did you figure out how far to throw?

Master That

Sure puts a whole new meaning on

But my brain works better when Im not consciously using it (thats funny LOL). It seems like when youre throwing a ball you're not consciously estimating the yardage and then telling yourself to through that distance. You just see the distance and your brain just knows how hard to throw the ball. But when you have to consciously use the correct pin or adjust your site accordingly, you must "know" the yardage and not just "feel" the distance.

Did that make any sence?

Now check out a traditional shooter at your next 3D shoot, no sights, no peep, no release, no kisser and no stablizer. God how can they hit a deer at all, meybe we should no allow them into the woods. Well I shoot both a compound with all the bells on it and also a recurve. I can with a good guess hit anything I can see in the woods with my compound bow, but limit mayself to under 35 yards. Now with the recurve it is 20 yards. The softball is a good way to get what a traditional shooter does to make sure he or she is skilled. The will staret at about 10 yards and shoot one arrow and then walk pick it up and shoot again and again and agin till they have skill level at that distance. They will then move back about 2 steps and start over and continue to work to gain skill. I now go to my 3D range and shoot unmarked distances and will shoot anywhere from 20 to 30 yards and only count true kill shots. I do this 2 times a week and yet I shoot about a full 100 arrows in my bag target just about every day. The more I shoot the more I get what they call 2nd vision that says in my mind the bow ar should be in this height for me to hit the target. I do not use the arrow tip for a sight tool. I am just one of those poke and hope shooter, pick a spot and burn it into your mind...

Hey maybe I will try just one pin on my compound sighted inat 25 yards and use windage for all other shots...

I actually thought about the traditional shooter after I wrote that. You brought up a good point whcih made me think too that maybe the multi-pins I have on my site is too much and maybe I should try just one and allow for a more natural feeling shot. Thats what I love about my new found sport. Always something new to learn!!

I think with shooting a bow archers get goofed up by target size at yardage...That was my biggest problem at first...I started shooting different size targets at farther yards,my brain picked up on it faster than I thought my brain worked LOL...Now it has become instinct to me no matter what size the target is...I think the more archers shoot different size targets at different yardages the better it will be for them..

Shoot at a Deer target at 50yards then shoot at a Turkey target at 50 yards...The size is what throws you off...You look at the Turkey and he looks to be farther away because of his smaller size compared to the Deer...The yardage is the same...

We can use any analogy we want,it comes down to practicing different size targets...

OR
BUY A LASER RANGE FINDER lol...This is cheating...

Don't be mentioning no TURKEYS:Cry:

I look at whats around the target more then I look at the target.....

did you know you can only see a blade of grass so far? and you wont be able to see a blade of grass any farther all day long, The same distance each time is as far as you can see a single blade or a leaf, bark on a tree........

You would be surprised at the differences.

You would be surprised at the differences.

I won the Buckmasters with a moveable site set at 37 yards:rockon: That was one pin! I hit a 62 yarder and Game ON!!!!!That was the only one I was worried about and it popped up first!

I aimed at a tree branch about 6ft above the target:biggrin1:

Cool Hood!

I actually meant that in support of single pin shooting. Last year, I switched to shooting a single up pin and would never go back to multi's.

I have tried since then, but my eyes and apparently my brain gets confused.

I preffer only concentrating on one thing at a time. :biggrin1:

scott,i am with you.when you throw a baseball/football you aren't even supposed to aim.but, when i am shooting my bow i have a peep and pin sights i actually have to aim with 2 points of refference the pins and the peep.

Boy yer a fast learner, but I bet that 50 yard throw well always be long:D

you know why it's so hard to shoot a good shot when all the becon is on the line, cuz you over think it!
