Hi All,

I have been watching my impact point with my arrows, and I have been noticing something that bothers me. Here they are...can you let me know if this is normal?

- When I shoot at 20 yards: Dead center of the bullseye (When well shot)
- When shot at 10 yards: Arrow hits 1" high, and 1/2" right.
- When shot at 3 yards: arrow hits 1" low, and 1/2" right.

The thing that scares me is this...

1. Why do I miss right from short distances, but hits dead center from 20 yards? Is the arrow actually curving?

2. Why does it hit low from 3-4 yards? Shouldn't it hit even higher than the 10yard point? Any guidance on this issue would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Just a quick answer to your 2 questions
The slight impact to the right at the closer ranges could be the result of Arrow Spine, Rest Position, Torque applied by your gripe on the release or Torque from the gripe of the bow. More than likely arrow spine or rest.
The 2nd question pertains to the fact that your arrow has not crossed your line of sight when 3-4 yards from the target.
Picture a string stretched from your peep to the center of the X , the travel of your arrow has not had a chance to cross it yet when that close to the target ( because its 5 – 6” below your peep at a starting point of its travel once you get out to 8 – 10 yards the arrow will meet the string or line of sight and as you get farther out it will cross it at the 8 -10 yard line and then continue to make a upward arc in order to make the travel to hit the X again .

hope this helps a little

When shooting from 5 yds and in, basically you need to use your 40 or 50 pin. Or you can just aim by looking down the shaft of the arrow

Quick fix..
If you know the distance from the center of your peep to the center of your arrow at full draw you can just hold that high.. with your 20 yard pin..

As far as the piont of impact at 3-4yds. JDX is absolutely correct regarding the height difference. As far as hitting a little right, your centershot may need to be adjusted. Before you go running to the Pro shop first walk back tune it as follows. Shooting at a bale, set the site to your 30 yd mark (and don't move it at all when shooting the different distances). Goto 10 yds. shoot one arrow, then to 20 shoot one, then to 30 shoot one, then to 40 shoot one. Look to see what the windage is of all your arrows. If they are all in a near perfect vertical than the bow is fine, no need to tune. If they are progressively sliding out further in the same direction as you are moving back this could be bad centershot or the sight is not adjusted. So to further rule out one or the other Adjust the windage of your sight to hit on at 40 while again leaving distance set at 30. Now shoot your way in 1@40, 1@30...etc.. If you have the vertical line of impact your good, no tuning req'd if you see them sliding out as you get closer than get it tuned.

Great advise all. I will definitely look into the verticle test. Also, the distance thing makes sense. I was always told that as you get closer the arrow will get higher, but I guess that isn't the case. That also explains why I can shoot from 10, be dead on, but from 20, miss 1" high with my hunting bow also?

I will do that test, and hopefully get that right/left thing figured out. I was just afraid that it was because I have left helical, and as I get out farther and farther, the resistance on the left side is making the arrows actually curve in-flight.

this is true, when using the same pins for all distances ( progressivly getting closer to all targets) until you cross that point of 5 or less yards....

Is there any chance that the left helical is causing the arrow to turn left? Or should I just get that out of my mind, and it is either me aiming, or windage?

The thing is when I am at 10 yards...I hit 1" high and 1/2" right EVERY EVERY time...but from 20 it is dead on....couldn't I assume something is wrong with that that is causing the arrow to turn? It can't be aiming every time?
