Put a Striker in a small buck this evening, looked a little back, like back edge of ribs/ liver. That was at 5:15. Man I was shook up! A doe got chased right under me, while I was drawing on her I could hear more. So I lift my eyes and see horns about 50 yards back. HMMM! Now what to do! So I let her mill around and Mr small horns will not close the gap. She finally crosses where I walked in and starts THE search. She moved around a bit getting nervous, when he dicides to pressure her, and they both take off! CRAP! I hit the grunt tube twice and the can twice, nothing to lose? Now I need to sit down or fall off! Trying to regain composure, 20 minutes goes by and horny shows up again. He was not sticking around either, he had somewhere to go. I took probably a 20 yarder, broadside, but hurried and mabey not as clear of brush as I would have hoped. I did get a good look at the hit, I believe below spine, and he absolutely tore out of there. He was smashing brush for what sounded like 100 yards or so. I did'nt hear any big crash, but it got quiet quick. Going back in 730 or so to eval things. Be back later with hopefully good news.

If you got gut, look near the nearest water. Could you see any blood? If so, was it really dark (liver?), what did your arrow look like (if you recovered it)? Hope you find him. Keep us informed.

If you got the liver he won't go far. That is as good as a heart shot I think. I have seen liver shots drop less than 50 yards and never more than 100 yards.

Sounds like you got a good enough hit to bring him down.

Get a good nights sleep and hopefully he'll just be laying about 100 yards up the trail.

Good luck!

I got him! My nephew did an outstanding job following sparce blood. I ended up in the rib cage, high , no liver hit. Got the back of both lungs but also an arterie along the spine I think. No pass thru and a blade was bent pretty good, thats why I suspect the spine contact. He went that 100-150 yards that I heard him, thats it. Small racked 7 pointer, mabey 140-150lbs. I'll get the TEAM 7 pic taken in the AM. HOLY DEER TICKS BATMAN! He is covered.
And a correction on the first post, I was using a Striker Magnum (1 1/2)

Congrats!!! Sooo how as the 2 hour wait? I had my worst 2 hour wait on my elk this year. Didnt see where the hit was but she only went a small ways and got into some tall grass, couldnt see her, I really didnt know what to do. So i kinda hung out, had some candy bars, a few smokes ext.... nothing like sitting around in the dark for a few hours after a shot.... will tear a guy up!! Awsom you got it though. congrats again!!

really I didn't know they always ran for water.. I gut shot a buck last year with my gun and we looked all over... including the water..no luck... but of course it had to rain too so if was like trying to find a needle in a hay stack!

Here he is. Stiker mag got bent up a bit. But that 1 1/5 entry is nice! Wish I had hit him where I should have, would like to see if it would have been a pass-through.

Thanks all. He's no king of the forest but I'm happy to have him for sure. Nice to take him out before he gets peppered with buckshot later in SG. Brought him to the new butcher this afternoon, he felt around inside the entry, he said he could feel a chunk of catalage-like material loose along the spine. So I probably did catch the lower edge of it. Boy I'm lucky to get him.
Why do we get so flustered? It's just a deer.

The 2 hour wait was'nt bad. Gave me a chance to regroup. Got my flashlights, cleaning and cart stuff together, took 2 asperin :noidea: (don't want any heart attack to kill the moment)
Even though as it turned out he was DOA before I got out of the stand, waiting worked out great.
