I am so sick and tired of being stuck in a dead end job I could scream.... I know I should be thankful that I have a place to work but as tough as the economy is right now that could change at anytime. The scary part is I have no degree and most any decent paying job requires one these days.

I am going back to school in the spring and I am going to graduate this time...:censored:

I have been looking at several schools here in Indiana and I am thinking Purdue North Central is where I am going to end up. I am looking at a Bachelor's Degree with a double major in Accounting and Marketing.

Working full time and going to school at night is gonna be tough but I am going to do it. PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I mauy need a kick in the rumpus once in awhile but I have made up my mind....:peace:

I just hope to hell I can get a loan....:frusty: :frusty: :frusty:

Bully~ That is great!!! Brent is going to school full time and was working full time. It's kinda tough, but definately worth it. I help him with one of his classes to ease the burden. Getting the loan was easy, we don't have to pay anything until 6 months after he graduates...fafsa.com.

We were registered and approved for a loan in about 4 days. We had a great counslor.

Now we just have to find him a new job:doh:

We just got my wife through her masters degree and we were both working full time. It was ROUGH but we made it. The federal student loans were a breeze. They will give you more than enough money to cover tuition and expenses as well as living expenses too if you need them. In fact this reminds me, at the end of this month we have to start our loan payments. Man, that is gonna suck! Good luck to you. You can do it.

I got to that point back in 99, did the same thing, put in a 40 hour week as a butcher and 16-19 hrs/semester; had to get full time sem/hrs so I could get max GI Bill benefits.

It was a little tough to start, but hang in there. The time flys by quickly

I had been researching this long before the election ever took place....:D

Party affiliation has nothing to do with my decision to go to school....

I know what you mean Bull, My wife graduates from nursing school Dec.20 and after that off to school for me, YIKES. I had a real stable job a little over a year ago. The pay was OK but it was a go nowhere job. After I lost that job I didn't know what to do. Started painting houses with my brother and most days couldn't be happier. If you hate your job take the leap.

Good decision Fiddle! :D Its a little frustrating at first, but once you get in the swing of things, you will do good. I too, was in the same situation you are in. I was making descent money for around here, but just wasn't happy, so off to school I went.

Hey, it will be hard, but definately worth every bit of it in the end.

My wife and I went back to school at the same time, her for a RN degree and myself for a BS in Civil Engineering. All while she worked full time, I work part time, raised three children, and also had our fourth. I was a tough four years, but we are now better for it.

Just remember to weight every decision carefully, especially summer courses if they are offered. They provide a great opportunity to shave as much as a year off your time, but at the sacrifice of much needed rest and opportunity to catch-up financially.

Another huge thing that people overlook is if there are children involved do not just expect them to know what is going on or not care. After you make a decision sit everyone down around the table, yes even the younger ones, and explain what you are doing and what you believe they can expect. Do this regurally, like during milestones, such as before final exam week or when term papers are due. Also, when you have a break or day off, take that opportunity to spend it with them, shooting, cooking out, or just relaxing and watching movies THAT THEY GET TO CHOOSE!!!

It is very important to frequently show your wife that you appreciate the help she provides, even if you don't realize it. There will be times that she will have to take on additional tasks, and while this will bring a better standard of living into the home, remember it is SELF improvement.

Just as importantly take care of you, one great opportunity that I had was my archery proshop was just 5 minutes from campus. When things got overwelming I would take my bow with me and shoot during breaks between classes, find some type of outlet for stress so that you don't take it home with you.

Good Luck and we are all behind you
Clem

if you're going to go, you might as well go to a party school, I would.

My brother is 35 and just started college. I picture him trying to walk around campus with all the 18 year olds trying to fit it and that makes me laugh.

I can't see me dealing with college except for the bar hopping and frat parties.

Actually the state college that my wife went to and I started at had a student body average age of 30 years old. I also went to a private university and there were several "non-traditional" students. The majority of them were guys who's jobs shut down and military veterans.

I'm talking raging keggers and topless chicks dancing on a poll in your dorm room. If you're going to do it, do it right.

Dorm rooms do NOT have enough room for a pole, let alone a half naked dancer swinging around it.... :noidea:

Good luck Fiddle and I wish you the best. :peace:

No, but an Army Barracks does, just trust me on that one. I really am thankful that I got all of that out of my system before I have to hit the books. I have definately had my share of keggers, actually I've had your share, her share, and his share, I drank alot.

You only live once, I'm just thankful I live through it.

You may want to look into online university's as well. A lot of them are fully accredited nation wide just like a regular brick and mortar university are, plus you don't have to deal with the drive and wasted time of getting to and from classes, and you can work around your schedule which is a huge benefit as opposed to having a set class time.

More than likely your school of choice will offer their classes in an online format so you never have to step foot in a classroom.

Good luck bud, its going to be rough but you'll do fine. I've been considering going back to school for a few years and just can't seem to get motivated enough to do it... finding out that none of my credits from my associates transfer (basically 2 years of school down the drain) isn't helping either.

I'm sure you already thought about it but make sure you look at your local job market and determine how high in demand the skills will be that you gain from the degree. Also look at entry level salaries as this is where you'll most likely end up to start with.

My husband graduates the 13th of Dec with is bachelors... He worked sometimes 50+ hours a week and took anywhere from 9 to 16 hours a semester plus chasing the ASA tournaments... It is tough, but so worth it in the long run!

My opinion is bad of college.....I know so many college grads that work in the same capacity as me. Many have wasted their college degrees, as they are working for approximately the same wages as me.
I am a HS grad with vocational training in my trade......Am working for a large nationwide company as an advanced technician, and am currently working on the ground work for my own company at the age of 37. I plan to be 100% self-employed in 5-7 years.
I think the market is overflowing with degrees, and the "Tradesmen" are nearly extinct.:noidea:

go for it. I went to college and got a BS in Agriculture business the first time and wound up back on the farm. I am currently going to Nursing school to be a RN and I love it. My first time through I partied to much and was to young to appreciate the educational opportunity. Now that I am close to thirty I appreciate it more and actually enjoy learning.
