Happened to hook up with this guy friday morning, almost had two, my brother was on a big 8 at 50 yards but didnt feel comfortable with a shot dead in the chest with his 870.... This guy was on my trail cams a couple times and I was hoping to meet up with him bow hunting but the muzzleloader works too....!! 35 yard shot, knocked him off his feet, then he rolled into the creek.:bowl:

I'll pardon you for the ML:p
What gun and what load? Congrats, nice buck.
Gun shoots great, easily able to shoot 150 yards, never taken more than 50 yard shot.

I tried the powerbelts too, the platinum aero tips, they shot fine to about 50 yards after that they were all over the place.... $30 bucks for a pack of them compared to 9.99 for 12 of the Harvesters that shoot awesome groups out to 150 yards! I will stick with my PT golds, heres a link to their site, both deer I have shot with them didnt take more than 2 steps. The buck friday rolled into the creek, the doe last year buckled and rolled over. Every muzzloader is likes different rounds but these shot the best for me, and like I said I tried quite a few different ones.
They come in 260 and 300 grain versions. 300 grouped a little better with a dirty barrel but they start dropping hard after about 80 yards with only 100 grains of powder.
Send them an email, they will send you some samples to try, prob. just 3 of each but that should tell you if your gun likes them or not.

Very nice! Sounds as though you like the CVA Optima, was thinking of picking one up to extend my deer season this year here in Ohio. ML is in January so I should have plenty of time to sight in before I hit the stand with it. Anything to look for or be aware of out of the box or while sighting in?

The drop is about 5 inches long, I had him on trail cam earlier and I wasn't sure if I was going to shoot the buck or not. The broken brow kinda hurts his score but when I saw him come across the field and got a good look at him I decided he was a shooter.... As for the CVA's they are very well built muzzleloaders, I sent my reciever back to CVA to have a free in house trigger job done and it came back with about a 3.5 lb trigger, really helped with the group consistency at 150+. I have never shot a deer that far but it works on paper so if given the opportunity I would take a 150-175 yard shot.

Hmmm lets see......
better down range trajectory......
More Speed/better trajectory=equals more Kenetic energy......
so you tell me.......for sissies??
hmmm
smaller bullet, not as much pelt damage to critters like Coyotes.....:noidea:
