They seem to be a very stout little gun and from what I've seen and read, I haven't gotten any negative feed back regarding them. Ruger makes an awsome revolver. Also look at the Taurus .44's. They are nicely made firearms for less money. If you look at the Raging Bull in .454, you can also shoot .45 Long Colts, of course with the .44 Mag, you can also shoot the specials. brokenarrow 11-29-2008, 05:47 PM The Alaskan is just a sawed off Redhawk...Great gun 454 casul...Great round, they really pack a whollop...:D I think any 44 mag or 45 colt would do the trick for you MoSkeeter0311 11-29-2008, 06:53 PM The Alaskan is just a sawed off Redhawk...Great gun 454 casul...Great round, they really pack a whollop...:D I think any 44 mag or 45 colt would do the trick for you I've borrowed my buddies" (454) and have put a couple of hundred rounds thru it. (not all in the same day of course). It is a heavy little sucker to say the least. (about 3 1/2 lbs) but you need the weight to tame some of the felt recoil. I have midsize hands and the grip was a little large for me and after about 40 rounds my hand was feeling numb and my wrist hurt. Plus I was having trouble holding it steady. After about 50 rounds , it was shaking and rattling my teeth and they were home in a jar. But that was my problem, not the guns. All-in-all I would say it is a damn fine gun, but for myself I would go with the .44. But I also don't need a backup for Bear or hogs neither. duckslayer870 11-29-2008, 11:54 PM All the ruger firearms I have ever dealt with are of the finest quality. I worked in a gun shop for about three years part time with a guy that was a ruger certified armourer and the only guns he and I ever saw much lack of quality in were the ruger P series autoloading side arms. shot fine just not what we liked. ruger rifles are top quality. A rifle in 45-70 would be great for your delema lots of stoping power. A lot like a loaded mack truck, Not real fast but hard to stop when it hits something. :D brokenarrow 11-30-2008, 06:48 AM All the ruger firearms I have ever dealt with are of the finest quality.
