View Full Version : to much pressure?
Breck 11-30-2008, 07:06 PM I did not see any deer this week is this because of hunting pressure? We are in full rut now the deer are barely feeding on the corn in my area. Do the deer migrate to areas during the rut? Opening day of the gunseason My buddy saw a ton of deer on the foodplot next week I barely saw any.
pred8er 12-01-2008, 04:39 AM If there was a lot of hunting pressure during gun season, the deer may have gone nocturnal or moved to an area that has less pressure. Deer do change their prefered food sources during the year depending on their nutritional requirements. If there is a food source that is just now comeing to fruitation, you may want to look in those area's.
If they have gone nocturnal, the only thing that I can tell you is to get deep in the woods near bedding area's. Try to put yourself down wind and between the bedding area and a food source. The deeper in cover you are, and the closer to the bedding area without blowing the deer out, the earlier you will see them because they still need to eat, but they will wait until just before dark to get out of their beds. Good Luck!
Daniel Boone 12-01-2008, 06:21 AM There times deer just dont move much during daytime hours.
If there pressure much they will will move at dark more.

Often 70% of the deer during gun season are harvested the first weekend. Especially bucks.

jdawg240 12-01-2008, 06:36 AM I havent seen a buck since November 15th while hunting. The deer on the farm are on full alert after a 15 day gun season. They dont act like the do during bow season at all. Gun hunting pressure really screws things up for me. This year has made me relize again I need to shoot all my deer before gun season starts! Bang, Bang, is bad for deer movement!
dont feel bad, buddy. I'm in La. too and hunted every day this past week and didnt see a single deer. my brother killed a little buck right at first light. they were feeding and moving at night.

A couple weeks from now the deer will calm down some. It wont be the same as before rifle, but I usually take a doe or two in late Dec. If you can set up 40 yards or more from a food source on a well traveled runway in cover, the chances should be good to excellent at harvesting a doe. You might even get a chance at a nice buck.
Breck 12-01-2008, 01:09 PM Thanks for the comments. Last year my buddy made a nice food plot and we saw deer on a consistant basis. We did not plant anything this year we were too buisy. That can contribute to what is happening now in our area. I did move a stand to a thicket and I am seeing deer movement but not very much. I feel better now I thought they were smelling me and avoiding the area I have scent killer /clothing ect. I will plant next year before bow season and for the gun season.

Breck 12-02-2008, 04:39 AM I took a doe 1 week ago and I want a good buck so bad I was letting everything elese walk. Maybe I should have taken another doe. I could have arrowed at least 6 to 7 does. They were all over me 2 weeks ago now Last week nothing. Well that's hunting. I hope I can get a shot at one around Christmas week. My wife fried some backstrap strips and man they were good. :peace: :peace:
UPSTATE 12-03-2008, 12:06 AM I hate gun season, honestly it wouldn't bother me if there was no gun season,,just bowhunting!
Breck 12-03-2008, 02:08 AM I hear hunters shoot multiple times sounds like they are shooting deer on the run. I hunted with my rifle a few times this year. Now all I want to do is hunt with my bow. The last few hunts I did I carried my bow and my rifle in the woods. I wish they would extend the season on bow hunting. I do not care for the muzzle loading season.
UPSTATE 12-03-2008, 04:02 AM I haven't gone gun hunting the last 2 seasons and many seasons before that was only the opening day tradition with family. I hate the sound of the "it's brown it's down" gang that hunts the woods across the street durning gun season. My wish would be NO gun season.
Breck 12-03-2008, 01:09 PM From the way thay are shooting multiple shots either their gun's are not sighted in. I heard this quite a few times. BOOM BOOM BOOM. :frusty: :frusty: :frusty:

My issue is more neighbor related. Now that the gun season is over they dont hunt at all. I'll be sitting on 60 acres of standing oats all weekend. Hopefully the feild will be full of deer well before dark:peace:
The one wingnut neighbor came over Sunday and told us they had seen the biggest buck he has ever seen in 20 years of hunting Saturday at 1:00 in the afternoon. With a doe???? I think I know who he saw:cool: He 's been totaly nocturnil except for the night of November 7th and the morning of the 8th. other than that he's a vampire. Must have a had one of the girls go into 2nd heat. Enought to pull him out into the open.
Lone Predator 12-03-2008, 04:23 PM duck hunters maybe?.....:noidea:
Probably "hunters" shooting at running deer being chased by dogs. I hardly ever hear one shot, and since VA no longer requires you to have a plug in the shotgun it's more like "BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG."
Drives me nuts. If you can't hit it don't shoot at it.

Breck 12-03-2008, 11:11 PM During my hunt's in Mississippi I had a few dogs find me in my stand. Very fustrating. A few times they would run the dogs to run the deer onto other clubs property. The next time it happened I brought the dog home and put him at the local Spca shelter near my house. If the dog had a tag I contacted the owner and what's funny is if the owner wanted his dog back he will have a 3 hour drive to get his dog. My buddy started shooting them I could not do that to mans best friend.
