Slight problem with a few of the facts presented in this article:

1. the US is a representative republic not a democracy, for most this is of little import but the symantics are important http://www.lexrex.com/enlightened/AmericanIdeal/aspects/demrep.html

2. the roman republic lasted almost 500 years much longer than the claimed 200.
