View Full Version : Asking her to marry me? Good Idea?
RyanH 12-10-2008, 06:21 PM Ok guys dont bash on me to bad! Yes as some say im fixing to give up my man card but whatever. She lets me be me and she makes to me so happy!
So I have rented a pilot and a small air plane and I am having him fly us over this HUGE christmas Light display in Chickasa, ok. I will propose to her when we are over the lights. Do you think this is a good idea?
Also I have a problem. I dont have a ring. The reason I dont have a ring is because we are having one custom made. What should I do about this?
Its not that I dont have the money buy why buy a ring when I we are having one made? She dont want to have it made till were engaged. SO what are your opinions? What should I do?

bbaumer 12-10-2008, 06:25 PM Here's a fairy tale for you.
Once upon a time a man asked a woman to marry him.
She said "no".
He lived happily ever after hunting and fishing and shooting his bow whenever he wanted. :D

Good luck bud!

OR
do you have a relitive that would loan you a ring? maybe something they dont use any more......
WAIT, HOLD THE PHONE........she knows about the custom ring??:noidea:
BUNNYMAN 12-10-2008, 07:23 PM Ryan you really are messed up with this girl.......you arent even typing in clear sentences???
Billy Dover 12-10-2008, 07:34 PM Personally Ryan, I like the hat, but now if she was to lose that leopard looking halter I'd say Yessssssss Sirrreee! In a heartbeat. Just one thing that's got me puzzled buddy, is that the girl I talked to when we were in Tejas, cause it sure don't look like her picture. Course she's got more clothes on in this one!!!
Alright now for some real words of wisdom! My Mama told me once to be careful with chasin' women cause I might get hold of a bad one! Daddy overheard this and said, "Boy your Mama's tryin' to tell you right, but what she shoulda said was Try Em all you might miss a goodun!!!!" Words to live by.
As far as you marrying this one, well you should'nt have to ask. You just know. Wrong or right. You just know.
As far as the ring, make one for her out of serving material, It'll mean something to her even after she gets her real one, and it'll mean somethin' to you, that you love something as much or more than our sport!!!
But what the hell do I know, I've been divorced 22 years. Good luck anyway buddy!
Later,
Billy

Very attractive lady. in regards to the ring thing, when i asked my wife to marry didnt have the money for a ring or a band, so i made one out of a straw. luckily she said yes and we have been married 26 years come april. she still has that straw band i made her for a ring. good luck to you. oh, and yes i did get her a real ring later.

Why do you need to have a temporary ring ?
Just call it an engagement and then do your custom ring deal.
What's the issue with that ?
You guys do your own thing and ignore the folks around you.
Those Hoyts can cause trouble in a relationship by the way. :frusty:

Danno was telling me you found you a sugar mama!!!!!! The best thing about that picture is she is hiding most of you, JUST KIDDING BUDDY!!!!!!!! They do say behind every good man their is a good woman. Seriously congrats and good luck.
dbdcougar 12-11-2008, 04:18 AM I did it without a ring and we went shopping the following weekend, but then again I'm about as unromantic as it gets. SandSquid's wife has a pretty good idea. As for marriage if you found a good one I'd recommend it.
dicksenn 12-11-2008, 07:23 AM Ryan,
Congrats man! I also proposed at the Chickasa christmas lights, although I did it on the ground. No need to buy a ring since you both plan on having one custom made unless you just wanted to buy a simple band. Like others have said if you make one, she will probably keep it forever.
Congrats again,
Richard
gamoboy 12-11-2008, 07:24 AM i have been married for four years now. i didnt have a ring either. well there wasnt really a proposal either. we just set a date. and let me tell yah. things arent like they were before the marraige. but good luck and i wish you both well
RyanH 12-11-2008, 07:35 AM Thanks Guys!
Ill be calling my Okie Friends that night!
TMax27 12-11-2008, 07:52 AM Here's what I did in the situation you are in.
Several years ago I had bought my mother a Past/Present/Future rings for Christmas. It has has the 3 diamonds. My mother passed a little before Sarah and I were engaged and I didn't have her 'engagement' ring paid off, so I gave her my mother's ring when I asked her hand in marriage. A month or so later, I gave her her 'engagement' ring.
My suggestion is give her something sentimental from your mother or possibly buy her a smaller Past/Present/Future ring as a 'promise' ring. I know, the promise ring highschooly for 'permission to get in your pants' stuff, but it would be something she would cherish.
Again, Congratulations! :peace:

man....why would you have an engagement ring custom made?
wedding ring...I can see those being custom.
I guess, just go buy an el cheapy wedding band for like $50 so she has something to put on her finger....but I still don't like the custom engagement ring idea, nor do I like women picking out their engagement rings either, wedding band, k.
But, you did one thing right, she's hot.
Congrats.
Congratulations... to both of you
Just remember marriage is like owning a boat... :D
hutchies 12-11-2008, 08:17 AM Go for it bud............I know your happy and like many have said marriage can be one of the best things you've ever experience. Just remember that marriage is alot of work................I also believe that when you are looking to marry just remember that you will be with that woman for a lifetime.
jdawg240 12-11-2008, 08:18 AM It would appear she already knows about the ring??? So in a way she already knows you intend on marrying her??? I like the braclet idea or just give her a hug and say you will get the ring when its done. Good luck.

master Cleatus 12-11-2008, 08:41 AM I agree with the slippy man..... I had a bad ( i mean bad marriage) marriage years ago...I still think she's Satan's sister or Daughter....
but now I am married to the "Gert"...best move I have ever made
dch3k 12-11-2008, 08:54 AM Buy a Nice Birthstone ring with the December birthstone...tell her you choose this until the custom one is finished to represent the month you proposed to her...she can then always where this ring on the opposite hand...and it will show you put some thought into...plus ..she'll have another meaningful ring
your welcome:wave:

Yep Slippy you are right................I imposed the 5 year rule on my wife. After we were together about a year she mentioned marriage. I told her that if we could stay together 5 years I would get married. My parents marriage was horrible and I wanted no part of marriage after seeing that. I think my wife thought I was joking................We lived together 6 years before we finally decided to get married and I couldn't be happier. First 5 years are rough man............If you can make it thru those it gets alot easier. I promise that you don't really know your wife til year 4.............then in year 4 you question your relationship. Year 5 however you realize how lucky you are. One thing you have to remember is everyone has flaws............No woman is going to be perfect.

Wheely 12-11-2008, 03:40 PM now that I have read through all the good and bad advice, I thought I would share my opinions....
You should give her some kind of ring. Even if it is a cheap band, a plastic diamond or a braided ring...and then get that custom ring done ASAP so she has something fancy to show off!!
also, marriage in general is not bad, mine just keeps getting better......marriage is bad for many people cuz of the bad decision they made in a spouse, most just don't want to admit they made the mistake so they blame it on Marriage in general. :p

1DevineShooter 12-12-2008, 10:51 AM Congrats Ryan! The ring doesn't matter that much. Michael asked me to marry him about 2 weeks before he got around to buying a ring. We've been married for almost 14 years now and just getting better.
That said it would be VERY cool for her to have some kind of permanent momento to cherish from the big night, so either make her one, get one out of a .25 cent machine, or buy her another peice of jewelry like a bracelet, necklace, etc.
Let us know how it goes!
