hi, looking forward to reading and learning here. I am looking for a new bow and setup. Lots of good ones out there, and very hard to decide on one. Advice/suggestions are welcomed. Bow is for hunting first.

welcome mike! Yes, there are lots of good choices out there. Most of the guys on here are 3ders who think they can hunt, where as I am the opposite.

Buy camo bow for hunting,better resale,I know I got target bows that are not favored by any one for shooting at critters with.:D

Here's what I do. I shoot as many different bows as possible. I choose at least three favorites. I look for the same or similar model left from the previous year or two, still hanging on the new rack. These models can sometimes be bought for 2/3 the original list price. I bought a new 2007 Hoyt Vectrix for $425 this year. Once a manufacturer's "flagship bow" falls out of fashion it can usually be had for a very reasonable price. If I were shopping now, I'd be looking for a new 2008 Bowtech General or Hoyt Vectrix plus. Don't limit yourself to the "top" brands, either. Most bow makers have a fine hunting bow. Choosing a store that has competent, helpful staff with a genuine love for archery is as important as the brand of bow I buy. Have fun, I do.:thumb:

J. Blay, thanks for the advise picking out a bow. There is a Hoyt dealer in my town. I know a Hoyt bow is not cheap but I will see what he has. I am sure he can fit me and let me shoot some of his bows. We also have a Cabelas and a Bass Pro. I know they have bows and a place to shoot. A friend also told me of an independent dealer who works out of his house that is another possibillity. He can fit you and he also has a place for you to shoot.
What are your thoughts on a used bow?

DO your research on any model you buy used. The General I suggested had limb problems. If you buy one used, there's no warranty on the limbs. I wouldn't be afraid of buying a proven model used like the Hoyt's you mentioned or the Bowtech Comander. If you find one you're unsure of used, post a thread asking for experience with quality and opinions on a fair price. There are other archers here with much more experience with other bows I haven't tried. I've suggested bows I like. You really need to shoot some as you may have different preferances.

Check out and shoot all bows you can because some bows just fit people better. I would suggest Mission,Reflex,Diamond,and Bear. They are nice bows at a good price.:peace: Again WELCOME:wave:
