View Full Version : How high can bows go in price
Daniel Boone 03-11-2009, 10:34 PM Im asstonished that bows are selling around $750.00 and more today.
Buddy paid over $1300.00 for colored Hoyt.
How many here have paid over $700.00 for a bow?
Got to admit I paid $700.00 for a used bow with extra set of limbs.

frs123 03-11-2009, 10:52 PM paid over 820 for my 101st last year and then another 400 setting it up
Looney Bin 03-11-2009, 11:10 PM been there and done that. Its crazy. On the other hand I just purchased a barely used Martin for 300. I'm kinda physched about it....
RickyM 03-11-2009, 11:33 PM Been there.:frusty:
the contractor 03-11-2009, 11:35 PM i am sure that they will continue to rise year after year . soon a mid-high end hunter will go for 1100. good example is a new truck . i think bows will go up in the same way . i bought an 07 vectrix xl new in january 08 . saved $125 bucks right off the top for being 'a year old'. i now found a straight up trade - my vectrix xl for a 08 conquest 4 . i dont know that i'll ever buy new again.
does it really cost more to make a bow now? i doubt its an exact relation to the cost increase.
trx125 03-12-2009, 12:14 AM Not I, I only gave 375 for my Switchback set up!:peace: I will not sell this one, it will goto my son later.
pred8er 03-12-2009, 03:38 AM Call me a cheapskate if you want, but I paid $350 for one of my SQ2, $79 (yes, seventy nine) for my Legacy and $550 for my Ally. All those were completely set up. I have no need to go out and buy the latest and greatest bow and sell it a year later when something shinney and new comes along. Bows are a lot like cars, they loose about 25% just walking out the showroom door. As long as it shoots well, I don't care how old it is.
spotshot 03-12-2009, 04:23 AM $1199 for my Vantage Elite worth every penny!
Paul S. 03-12-2009, 05:46 AM I paid over $600 for my first BowTech a few years ago, and it was a leftover from 2003. Thats the last new bow I have bought. The rest have been from the local shop used, or from AT. As much as I would like a new bow(who wouldn't?), my '06 Ally does just fine. :D
hutchies 03-12-2009, 08:01 AM As long as I can pickup year or 2 year old bows online for $300 to $400 less I won't be buying new anytime soon......................Buddy of mine just picked up a Katera XL for $400 with an extra set of brand new strings..........:peace: Awesome shooting bow and for that price it's hard to pass up.
pilot 03-12-2009, 08:05 AM I'll pay whatever it takes for something new......and SHINY.....:D
It's a weakness i have. :frusty:
hunter2678 03-12-2009, 08:10 AM Bought brand new once ($750) and am in no hurry to do it again. I plan on buying either previous years leftover models or go used. Got my latest hunting bow used for 325$ That kind of spoiled me. :noidea:
Gator eye 03-12-2009, 08:16 AM I'm guilty...I ve paid top dollar for my target bow.
and
My hunting///3D bow.
And I'll probably spend the top dollar on my next new bow whenever I find one that I think will help me squeeze a few more "X"'s out.
BuckeyeRed 03-12-2009, 09:30 AM Been there, will be again in a month or so.
I inherited the impulse buy gene, and self control isn't one of my strong suits when it comes to archery.
Scablands 03-12-2009, 09:35 AM My most expensive bow to date was a new Elite GTO for $720 delivered, to pay more a bow may have to be gold plated. My next bow will probably be used. :noidea:
Ronhop 03-12-2009, 10:25 AM It's a simple matter of what people are WILLING to pay.
If they pay $750, the price will go to $800. If they pay $800, the price will go to $825, etc...
I paid around $700 for my 82nd in target colors. I don't remember the exact price but there was an upcharge for the testarossa colors. I was stupid to pay for that in retrospect. My other bows I bought used and that's the most likely route for me in the future. Almost all of my accessories like sights and rests I bought used, from responsible previous owners that took care of their gear. New bows are too expensive and the shops that sell them often times just want to make a buck instead of providing good advice and good customer service. Screw it, I set stuff up myself now with help from fellow archers that shoot around here. I enjoy that anyway and I have learned a TON as a result...

broken arrow 03-12-2009, 10:46 AM I payed 650 for my sniper. The shop recomended this bow because it was a complete outfit and can be up graded if needed. The shop I go to is very helpful, and the set up is great. They are always will to answer any questions and give tips and pointers. Too bad all shops couldn't be that way.
SandSquid 03-12-2009, 11:04 AM I enjoy watching people who have to go out and buy the latest model every year. Especially when I can buy their 1 year old, hardly used stuff for pennies on the dollar!!!-)
I don’t think I have more that $500.00 invested in BOTH my Martin P3's, and that's including the RipCord rests and HHA Sights.
Right now I'm on a Martin Tigress buying spree... Any I can find for $150, or less come home with me!
They are great little bows and perfectly suited for teaching kids to shoot.
All that being said, Mrs. Squids brand spanking new (actually it has not arrived yet) 2009 Martin Mystic set me back about $750, including the RipCord w/ Martin mount from the factory.
Did she NEED a new bow? No, I'm sure she'd be perfectly content to shoot her ShadowCat forever. Does she deserve a new bow, absolutely!
Allen 03-12-2009, 11:10 AM I'm saving up for a new bow with a change jar. However, I've never gotten it full enough for a new bow. Great deals on used bows keep showing up.
My Pro Elite was only $385.00.

Good example of that is the Monster. MSRP is $899. That's $950 with tax added. What's even more astounding is the amount of people I see on forums touting it as the greatest thing since sliced bread. To me it's a joke. Granted I'm an archery guy, but for that kind of money you could outfit a good rifle with a quality scope and somewhere down the road it'll be worth more than what was paid for it.
BowhuntnHoosier 03-12-2009, 05:49 PM I gave $627 for my SB XT in '06. I have had it now for over 3 years so thats only around $209 a year.  :biggrin1: :peace:
Im cheap! My first and only bow so far is a BPS Kronik. I paid 350 on sale but have modified it to my preference. I have spent almost that amount in arrows. My last purchase was Gold Tip Pro Hunter arrows with .125 gr. tips.

Only ?
Well, I'm sure most of us have done it. But after the lesson with the 82nd I'm not going to make the same mistake again...
Heck I bought my beloved Blueberry Ovation with the Mathews rest in perfect shape for about $400... I'll probably have it until I die or until I can't get a string/cable for it anymore. Mr. Morgan (Ranger Bowstrings) took care of that for me this last time around so I'm good for a while at least... :peace: Mr. Jensen has also taken care of me in the past although I don't think he's posted on 3D in quite a while. Both of those guys do good work and are class acts.
Long live the used/new to me Blueberry Ovation !

Radar 03-13-2009, 03:49 PM The only brand new bow I have ever bought was my Trykon XL and I paid like 690.00 for it. All of my target bows have been used. I am on a pretty good run with that though lately. The Last target bow I paid for was my one and only ever run in with Blowtech had that for about 4 months shot it for about a month, traded that off for my ultratec, traded that off for my ProELite. Shot the ProELite for about 2 1/2 yrs and just last sunday traded that off for a Mathews Conquest apex..................I am sure it will all catch up to me in the end.
RyanH 03-13-2009, 05:28 PM I believe im DB buddy that bought the Colored hoyt! LOL
Carpshooter 03-13-2009, 06:34 PM I believe im DB buddy that bought the Colored hoyt! LOL
:dizzy:

camohunter87 03-13-2009, 10:56 PM with tax, I pain 1400$ for my conquest apex
sfhunter 03-14-2009, 05:00 PM all of my mathews were pretty close but the dealer always cut me some pretty decent brakes since i was buying a bow from him every other year or so.
swintj1 03-14-2009, 09:54 PM Paid $729 for my Hoyt Vectrix, and then I spent $1,200 bare-bow for my Apex7. Plus, add in $250 for a SureLoc, $100 for a Posten set-up, $110 for a limb driver, $120 for arrows, $200 for releases, $300 on scopes...up past $2K for the Apex7...but she's worth it. I wouldn't mind owning a Vantage Elite, but I am tapped out for right now. But, someday I'll get my hands on one!
upnorth 03-15-2009, 11:07 AM how can anyone compare a gun to a bow . most buy a gun and sight it in and put away untill they decide to practice maybe a few times a year untill hunting season than shoot maybe a couple shots if lucky during season than put it away untill next year . i have shooters that shoot almost every day . if you dont reload for your gun you can figure at least 30 dollars a box . if i shot a gun as much as my bow it would cost me minimum 150x20x 30dollars(4500 plus cost of gun plus i would probably have to replace barrels ) to shoot my gun as much as my bow .and we have allot more fun with our bows . not many gun 3d ranges around .
