View Full Version : Sight pin size?
Rob01 03-15-2009, 04:51 PM I see a few out there from .029, .019 and .010. What would be the best for a 3D bow. I wouldn't think the smallest would but of the two larger?
Just starting to do some research on a new sight for a 3D specific bow. Any opinions on sights would be fin too. I was thinking about a Spot Hogg or Toxonics.
Thanks.
killasoundz 03-15-2009, 07:07 PM I've got .029 on my spott hogg and really wish I had gottent he .019. I haven't tried the .010 but those would be the best if you could see them.
It seems like if I get tired or unsure of a shot I have a tendency to move the pin a little so I can make sure that X is still there. With a smaller pin I wouldn't be covering the thing I'm shooting at entirely and would probably focus alot better. Especially for 3D where some of the targets are out there.
jdawg240 03-15-2009, 07:11 PM I love the .10 pins on my sword.
poorman 03-15-2009, 07:54 PM For me I like a 029 pin for the top pin (30 yards) and 019 for the others.
Ronhop 03-15-2009, 09:10 PM I have all .019 on all my sights and pins.
I would like to try a .010 on my indoor setup though.
Just for kicks... At 20 yards a .029 pin can actually blank out an X.
With a .019, it just makes me have target panic....

hunter2678 03-16-2009, 09:32 AM I used to use a .19 for my 3D bow but after seeing the pin/fiber quality of the swords I bought the 3rd plane micro in .010 and couldn't be happier or more accurate.
Rob01 03-16-2009, 11:30 AM Thans for the responses. I have to check out the Sword sights and see what they look like.
archeryisme 03-16-2009, 01:27 PM For 3-D I use a .010. I don't want any more of the target covered up than necessary. I don't care if my pin is a little fuzzy. I want to see my target clear as possible. For me a .029 pin at 45-50 yards covers up the entire scoring area.
Ronhop 03-16-2009, 03:40 PM Oh, and the fiber color makes a difference in what you perceive to be a pin diameter. To me, red makes the pin seem bigger than it is.
Green is kind of 'normal' if you wan tto call it normal.
Blue makes the pin seem smaller that it should.
The colors of the fiber change the way your eyes perceive the pin size because of the frequency of light rays they tend to capture.
It helps to experiment.... And replacing fiber is relatively inexpensive.

the contractor 03-16-2009, 03:50 PM i switched from a g-5 with .29 's to a sword with .10 's . the pin size was all the difference i needed . i even got a dead fiber i need to replace on my 20 yd pin and it still kicks but.My favorite fiber color is the orange. just easier for me , no distortion.
BowhuntnHoosier 03-16-2009, 05:17 PM I think my Flashpoint has .029 but I hear alot of guys are shooting the .019. I wonder if I can order some .019 for my flashpoint and just change them out?

They will not let you order it because it might make you better....

Rob01 03-16-2009, 06:05 PM Interesting about color. I am going to have to give Sword sights a good look. Seeks like alot of people like them. I was looking at the Toxonics and Spot Hogg.

Swords fibers are super super tough and bright also....the best fibers I've seen so far in respect to those characteristics....even with the .010 fibers...its more like monofilament line in elasticity.
hstubblefield 03-17-2009, 08:03 AM .10 worked for me
Hkdfrlife 03-18-2009, 04:22 AM If you use a small peep or a clarifier, red and green colors tend to halo an ditort. Blue is the only color that does not halo. That's why LP lighted sights recomends blue fiber optics unless you ask specifically for a colored fiber
