What should I expect going to compete in my first IBO shoot? I am either going to the one near Erie Pa in June and/or the qualifier in NJ the week later.
I am getting more serious this year and want to know what I would need to bring? I see alot of guys at the bigger local shoots carrying folding chairs and umbrella's.
I really have never turned in a card locally but when I look at my scores vs. the guys that are doing the bigger local shoots I would usually have been in the money. This is trully using my hunting equipment also no binoculars or super light arrows.
I have just gotten a pair of 8.5 x 50 Vortex and was given a dozen fatboys so I wanted to know what else I should invest in?
Also what class should I compete in? Locally I always shoot from the farthest stake and like I said when I would compare my scores to those turning in there cards I would be very competitive with both the guys using scopes at the longer stake and the guys using the shorter adult stake but I am shooting from the longer stake.
Also any 3d specific tips. I have my pins set in 10 yard increments is this too wide?

I would start out in mbr or ahc sounds like you would be ok with one of those. MBR Is 45 yds fixed pins any stablizer. AHC is 40 yds max fixed pins short stablizer.

Any other suggestions? Big shoots are all new to me so I want to accelerate the learning curve.
Thanks! :peace:

Well to answer a few of your questions
Folding chairs with the tubes for shooting is great for larger shoots, that way your not wearing a quiver, and at larger national shoots sometimes the courses can get backed up and a place to sit is nice to have.
umbrella's are used for 3 things blocking glare from sun on scopes, blocking the wind, and well getting out from the rain. if your already bringing a chair there nice to pack away as well.
It depends what points your have in the fatboys, if there glue in points your proably going to be shooting MBR MBO. If there inserts with screw in points then your looking at HC, or AHC.
I shot AHC and MBR for a long time with pin sights set up with 10yard gaps and it works just fine for me.
Bring boots, bug spray, arrow lube, and water
Oh and dont forget to have fun. :biggrin1:

Wow! It was fun but very humbling! This was my first IBO shoot.
I just got back from Delaware and shot the MBR class. I shot only a 221 a full 60 to 70 points below what I normally shoot!
I knew I was in trouble when we had a beaver across a stream at 45Yrds. Shot a zero on that. I just couldn't believe they would have such a small target at such a long distance. Then 2 targets later a 45 yrd alligator down in a swamp where we are on a hill almost a full 30 feet above where we are shooting. Shot an 8 on that I had the distance right just right of the 10 ring.
The last time I shot a zero before today was 3 years ago when my D loop broke. I also think I shot more fives today then I did all of last year. I shot 9 fives and 2 zero's.
There was only 3-4 shots less than 40 yards.
I had a blast. Can't wait to see how my scores rack up againts my peers!
