View Full Version : Hoyt/Easton might have the right idea.
Daniel Boone 05-13-2009, 10:39 AM Just stay off the interent!
Actually most at shoots here, many never hear about the forums when I ask them. Most the guys that enter the pro shops in my area never visit the internet.
Lets face it for all the good you hear about, there will be some have more than enough bad about your bows or products.
Heck most celebritys have been bashed for there shows at onetime or another on the net.

bbaumer 05-13-2009, 03:33 PM You are probably right.
They did have a discussion forum a few years ago but they very abruptly shut it down.
Record Keeper 05-14-2009, 06:47 AM After the legendary battles that GT got himself into, I'm not at all surprised that Hoyt/Easton has little internet presence.
Also keep in mind that Easton is the primary sponsor of USA Archery (fka the NAA) and significant dollars flow in that direction...not to mention that archery is only a small part of Easton's business.

They had more than enough promblems with the constant bashing. They sure lacked mods. But it took Mathews quite awhile to start there own forums and websight. They delete quickly there and dont allow promotion of anything but Mathews or anything controversal. NFAA doesnt have forums. Maybe the forums can be the promblem. Bowtech seems to be selling alot of bows without a forum which I find interesting.
Diffiantly food for thought for advertising on the net.
Im thinking for manufactuers having a websight and not the forums possiable might be a good thing. But then again there going to be forums so why would not want the forums for your product in your back yard?

I agree. As we both have first hand knowledge, forums have an inherent problem with members who have a couple of beers in the evening and are instantly a keyboard cowboy seeking to entertain themselves through pot stirring. Big companies are an easy target in this situation, as evidenced by all of the bashing that has been directed at "Diamond Jim" in recent years.
Bottom line is that small companies can greatly benefit from Internet forum promotion (e.g., Posten, B. Stinger, STS...all of whom likely would have never gotten off the ground had it not been for forums like this one, Elite, and AT), whereas big companies like Easton have little to gain by promoting forums on which they will become the big guy with a target on their back.
Jay Are 05-14-2009, 09:23 AM What do they gain by having a forum?
Even though an Internet presence does help with marketing (especially smaller companies), I still think the best way to market products (in Archery) is through the good old fashion way of word of mouth. I put more credit on what someone says in-person than I do in what they may say on an Internet forum.

Totally agree. I dont take alot of advice unless I know the person and have read many posts by him. I do agree many products would not be advertised other wise. Slick Tricks doesnt advertise hardly any where. His Broadhead was from members constantly talking about on the net. Great success story from a small company. But we all see the guy who doesnt like brand X that constantly bashes the bow manufactuer ever chance he gets. (example the Bowtech limbs exploding) I want honesty but some carry it way to far. Then Im told some companies pay to have staff members post on the net. I get accused of this especially about Trophy Taker. No one ever sent my check yet! How many just blow the bashers off?

Have you ever purchase a product because of the members on a forum? Does it get your curiousity if many are prasing it.

red44 05-14-2009, 11:11 PM As someone who buys older bows, I do appreciate the manufacturer at least having bow/cam sting and cable specs online. They should'nt let them slide either. Hoyt/Easton has'nt done the job Mathews has there.
I do wish they still had a forum just to be able to get older bow info in addition to current info. But then I don't know exactly whats involved and the expenses to keep it going.
BowhuntnHoosier 05-16-2009, 07:28 AM I have bought quite alot because of guys on this and other forums. Posten,Slingbraid,Sure-Loc,STS,Tru-Ball releases. Its a great way to advertise.:peace:
But in everything good you will always have a butthead around trying to foul things up.:tape:

Totally agree when it comes to small ticket items... but when it comes to dropping $700+ for a bow, I am going with someone that I can trust. Net or in Person.
But having someone on here telling me how great a Bow is becasue they own the forum or is a sponsor of the forum is not going to convince me. :noidea: More or less, I think it turns me away from the net due to pot-stirers and defenders.
