DB, the story is in the works. Thanks for bringing them over here. I am still unwinding and taking care of some things around the house, not to mention its back to work for me. The Air Force pays the bills these days. I will post up the story soon!
Thanks again,
Dave:peace:

DB, I figured I would throw the short version up here of my story. This year was such an awesome year in the elk woods and there is sooooo much more I could share, but I don't want my readers to fall asleep! So without further delay...
Success again my friends! . I shot this one on 19 September at about 0815. We got off the 4-wheelers in the dark and immediately started hearing bugles all over the mountain. We quickly got our stuff together and took off after them. We followed several herds for miles, but those darn Elk are fast even when walking. We would get in, set up, and do some calling in hopes of luring one of the big boys by our setup. We jumped a few cows, calves, and a couple spikes, but the big ones eluded us. Finally, we got after the one we called the “Growler”. We closed the distance to around 80 yards and began to set up for a calling routine. Just as I was getting into place it appeared we bumped a couple elk. I went ahead and got ready, then the guys started cow calling. First I saw a Cow, then the spike, followed closely by a nice bull. The problem was they were quartering away from me at about 70 yards. The guys called again and the cow turned and ran right at me. I thought she was going to run me over! She stopped in an opening and with the other two elk following I just knew I might get a shot if I could get the bull to stop in that same opening. Well he stopped alright, but it was in an opening about 5 yards to the right of her. I had my bow drawn from the time the cow charged in on me so I just swung my bow over to the bull, put my 20 and 30 yard pin behind the shoulder, not knowing for sure if he was 20 or 30 yards away. I let the arrow fly and watched as it hit him in the top lung area. The arrow buried up to the FOB and off they went. We waiting for an Hour and I cow called just to try to calm them down on and off then we took up the trail. The blood wasn’t much due to the height of the shot, but there was some blood. My buddies walked ahead looking while I sat on the blood and soon one of the called out they found him. What an awesome feeling. He made it about 150-200 yards and piled up in a finger of pines, in the nice cool shade. This is my 3rd elk in 3 years of drawing tags. We got him all boned out, packed out, and I took him to the processor. It was 195 pounds of solid meat. We’ll be eating great for the next year.
