seeing as I've never stuck a deer before, where is the ideal shot to be placed on it broadside and quarting away? Right behind the shoulder? into the rib cage? Just want to make the shot count..

Deer can often react just as the arrow is being released. When they react they shift there weight to there hind quarters to help launch themselfes out of the hole. The instant they do this it can cause a well placed double lung hit that was a tad high to be over the animals back. I will generally hold right
at the very lowest part of the chest, once in a while it results in a hole right thru the boiler room. If the deer reacts real fast and the shot is a little far you should have both lungs. Both lungs is the most preferred shot by most experts. :D

Smokes shot there is right on the mark. I tend to aim low as well. If the deer drops to load up to run you still have a good hit if you are a little low you catch the heart; if you are lower than that it's a clean miss - no harm no foul. (been there done that  )

Stay away from the shoulder. Aim for the ribs and like grizz said a little low. I hit a deer in the shoulder last night and did not recover that deer. I shot in high wind last night and I think that pushed the arrow froward on the deer had I shot 2" lower that deer would be in the freezer right now.

Hi im relatively new to archery hunting just a few years. but yesterday in the afternoon hunt i had a mind boggleing thing happened to me not once but three times . I need help!!!!!!! I was up in my tree in my climber just off a wel beaten trail and sure enough had some activity first a little three came right into me ,under me and proceeded on his way . then about a half hour later iwas snorted a couple of times but didnt see the deer. but i waited and ten minutes later a nice seven came in the same route the three did i drew back as soon as he poped out i took a shot missed but the deer came back drew back again n shot a second time missed again the deer at this point was real jerky but still had no idea wat was going on. So yes agin he presented a shot but alittle further out this time so i did it again and missed and yes out of arrows. The deer was nevr twenty to twenty five ft away from the base of the tree i was in n i was about fifteen to seventeen ft up . my shot was way high all three shots and when i shot my bow in this season i was on real tight groups . very confidedent ! what happen , what do i have to take into consideration when up and shooting down. I need to kno what i did wrong and more importantly what do ineed to do improve my shot. I was up all night couldnt get it out of my head . it kept playing over n over in my head. it was just so exhilerating i cant wait to get back into my stand n hopefully get a oppertunity to redeem myself.

sounds like you need to get up in your stand and try practicing..I know last spring I took my climber out and shot my bow from it, and I did have to adjust just a tiny bit. But now, I can shoot either on the ground, or from a stand up to 30 yards with no problems.

What type of sight are you using? Are you sure you lined up the correct pin on the deer?
