Here it is Dan, I had a great time with Manboy and Huntnmuleys from AT
Well I just got home from hunting with Ronnie and Brad (Manboy and Huntnmuleys)
This all started last year when I asked Manboy if he would like to chase Indiana Whitetails in exchange for an Antelope hunt. Manboy took me up on the offer and walked me through the application for license. Manboy also told me I could bring one of my best friends.
My buddy Joel and I planned a 10 day hunt, 6 day bowhunt and 4 day rifle.
We arrived in WY last thursday where we met up with Ronnie, He took us to the store and made sure we had all the stamps and licenses and then took us to camp. manboy set up his 5th wheel for us to stay in (hot showers and a heater)(very nice).
We started off spot and stalk Antelope, WOW,,,tough hunting. We could find them but then getting to within 60 yds was another story. I finally made my way to within 60 yds of a nice little goat with a doe. The doe spotted me but I had the wind and set motionless. The buck was down in a deep ravine and did not know I was there. When the doe looked away I ranged the buck ay 57 yds, I settled my 60 yd pin low behind the ribs (slightly quatering away), took the shot and wasnt sure of my hit. The buck ran out about 30 yds and stopped, I ranged him at 85 yds and took a second shot which dropped the buck (first shot would have done it).
2 days later My buddy Joel got his chance when he stalked about 500 yds up a ravine and shot his buck at 15 yds in its bed. It was an incredible stalk and I figured he had ZERO chance of getting the shot..I was very proud of him.
After our Goat tags were filled, Huntnmuleys(Brad) and manboy took us around to some of their hot spots for deer but after several stalks we could not get it done.
Rifle season opened on the 1st and with it came 60 mph wind gusts, we hung the bows up and took the rifles. We seen one buck all day and he was on Private ground. (by the way all of our hunting was on public ground)
We went out friday and the wind had died to 30 mph but the sun was shining so we glassed alot of east slopes and ravines out of the wind.
I spotted 2 does lying on a ridge with a buck about 60 yds behind them, I wasnt sure how big he was but I knew he was good enough for this Indiana boy who had never shot a muley, I took the prone position and settled the crosshair on his shoulder and touched off the Abolt. After the shot he disappeared into the deep ravine. Ronnie and I made our way into the ravine where we recovered my 5x6,,,I would have loved to have taken him with a bow but it just didnt work out that way.
Shortly after I recoverd my buck Joel shot a 3x4 at 250 yds with a 40mph crosswind. Hell of a shot and a beatiful buck.
I can not thank Ronnie and Brad enough for allowing us to come out and have such a great hunt. It is now my turn to return the favor and see if I can put Ronnie and Brad on a couple big hoosier bucks.
