I am going on my first Elk hunt. I need some newbie advise on how to find the elk. I am a white tail hunter and im pretty sure i got it covered once i do find them but i need to find them first. we will be hunting 53 and 54 in colorado on fourwheelers. I tried to get the guys to take the horses but they were not fan of the idea. SO whats the best way to fing the elk? We are on public land so keep in mind we can only ride the fourwheelers so far then hike it from there. Oh sorry i know this doesnt pertain to this site but its a gun hunt. Sorry. 7mm mag very accurate shot to 600 yds. 10 in group @ 600

Look for elk sign. Rubs, fresh wallows and listen to bugling. Find a high point and watch the open meadows for the elk. Be in good shape and walk the ridge tops glassing the mountain sides.

Have a cow call and hit on occasion.
