killed this black wolf about 200 yards from our cabin, saw him with two grey wolfs. He was the only one that stuck around long enough for me to get a shot off. I spotted them at about 100 yards, as I walked closer to them, the two grey wolfs buggered off but the black one stayed, and it turned stood directly at me looking like it was about to charge me.
57 yards, arrow went low on his chest blowing out his heart and the bottom of one lung and exited infront of his right leg. The wolf did a spin and dropped. The wolves were howling for about 5 minutes after. It was the most eery sound.

The wolf looks small in the pic but it was estimated at 55-60lbs. The coat is thick and a rich black color.

I was using a 2009 APA BOA, 60lbs, 30" DL, 429grain arrows tipped with 125 grain muzzy BH and NAP quikspin speed hunter vanes.

What state is this? I realize it is not a close pic but aren't a wolves ears rounded and not pointy at the top. From pics I have seen they are EXTREMELY rare to be solid black, there is usually gray mixed in.

Hopefully your kill is legal and hopefully it is not another cabins German Shepard.

If so congratulations!!

Nice wolf and nice shooting! If taken here in the continental US that maybe one of the first archery wolf kills.

I am actually is BC Canada, We see solid black wolves all the time in usually the same spot on the moutains. This year we have probably seen close to 100 wolves, usually 4-6 in a pack.
In my MU, BC wildlife made it so you don't need a tag and there is no bag limit. These critters are killing the moose population like crazy. Lowest I've seen it in years

Bud of mine was charged by a black wolf last year, the day before he sprayed some cow moose scent on the ground, the next day there was lightening fresh sign and a pack of wolves. Lucky for him he got a shot off and scared the :censored: out of the wolf
