Hey guys. I'm thinking a new target bow for this year. Want to sell my hunting bow and save and put towards a new 3D and hunting bow.
Its between Mathews and Hoyt.
I'm keeping my blue C4 for indoors and field. Love that thing.
I'm gonna wait to see what the new Mathews target bows are, but for Hoyt I'm thinking Contender, 2000 limbs and spirals. I have a 31ish" DL.
This bow specs out at 38.5" and should be super fast.
I never see guys over 6' shooting 2000 limbs on the Hoyts. But with alot of good shooters shooting the AM 35 for target, this should be fine, right?

It will work fine. The reason you rarely see tall guys shooting the 2000 limbs is due to the fact that the 3000 limbs are more forgiving (axle to axle, brace height) and yield roughly the same speeds as the 2000 limbs. You will not notice a 5 fps difference, but you will notice the difference in forgiveness.

If its 3d/hunting you want, I'd lean toward the 35 series bows. They will be slightly more critical of form when compared to a contender, but you will get more speed out of them (my AM 35 at 30.5" DL 62# 315 gr arrow doing 324 fps). The maxxis series is nice in the woods for hunting, as the string angle at full draw based on cam profile 34". This is a little over an inch shorter than the AM35. The XTR series cams are a little easier in a tree stand than spirals, the lack of a valley when you lean down to take a shot could cause the cams to roll, as the natural inclination is to shorten the draw. Keep that in mind, but you are on the right track. Shoot them all, you will know which is your answer.

+1 good info, I too would go towards a 35, maybe want to look at the Drenalin LD if you are leaning towards Hoyt or Mathews, I really like the specs on the Ventura by Alpine myself. 36.5 inch axel to axel and brace height of 7.375, spec wise it would be more forgiving than both the Hoyt and Mathews.
