View Full Version : Does size matter?
Daniel Boone 12-14-2009, 12:41 PM Hunting is certianly not all about trophy horns.
I enjoy seeing large rack deer and hunt hard myself.
But guys kids and many dont care and just want to go hunting. Actually most kids I take could care less about size. They want to pull that trigger.
Trophys come in many sizes. Just hunt and have fun.

dicksenn 12-14-2009, 01:28 PM All depends on the hunter. Most first time hunters are just looking to see a deer in range, so they are not going to be picky. Dad always likes to do better than the previous year so if it's not bigger than last year he won't shoot, although I've seen him break that rule a couple of times.:biggrin1:

How would you feel if Oklahoma went to one buck like many states?
DB
Gator eye 12-14-2009, 02:55 PM I found that the size requirment of the rack greatly depends on the level of meat in the freezer and how much time left in the season..........:biggrin1:
Some of my best deer pics I have are of my kids with spikes and four points they shot.

One buck is fine with me for OK. Do that or leave the two buck limit but one has to be taken with archery gear and one with either black powder or gun, but not both.

DB I dont think this is bord.I would like OK 2 go to 1 buck becuse hunters would be a little more picky what they shoot

I am against a one buck limit. Actually didnt want to see the three buck go to two buck.
Right now the bucks harvested numbers are the same as they were with three bucks. Lets keep the hunters and numbers of hunters.

I thought going from three to two was going to change everthing. Buck numbers are the same and actually maybe higher this year.
Imigine that!

gamoboy 12-14-2009, 06:04 PM i think in some areas they need to go to a 1 buck limmit and increase the doe limmit. DB and i had a talk yesterday and i have only seen one buck in the wild and i didnt get him because my peep was turned. well yesterday while we were hunting we seen 4 bucks. that was a great time just seeing them.
size does matter in some instances, if you have the bucks to pass on to wait to get a big one it should matter then. on public land its not always that way and i usually shoot the first one i see. ( if i see a deer). when archery hunting i see any deer that you take is a trophy.
i had a talk with David Nance of JParchery in october about his buck he shot last year. and he said it was like winning the lottery, but he also said that anything you get with a bow is a trophy weather its a 50lb doe or a world record buck.
i am happy with any deer i get. if i wasnt i wouldnt shoot it and that is how every one should look at it IMO
grizz49 12-14-2009, 11:33 PM Be pro active voice your opinion, don't let the Okie state get messed up like her in Mi. Relay your experiences, recount your hunting sucesss, show your pictures, share your data. If Hunting regulations change it should be after a year or more of extreme and exstensive study with biologists, county managers, and sportsmans groups all giving imput. Even the local school bus drivers have valueable imformation. But above all be careful! just my 2 cents
dbdcougar 12-15-2009, 07:20 AM I agree DB.

I like that idea, except maybe allow both to be taken with archery if you don't shoot one with muzz or gun.
