Perfect time of the year to try it. roosevelt 12-21-2009, 06:01 PM seems for me, whatever i do scent control wise, if i'm upwind of game, it's over, other than the occasional dumb animal:biggrin1: gamoboy 12-21-2009, 06:10 PM seems for me, whatever i do scent control wise, if i'm upwind of game, it's over, other than the occasional dumb animal:biggrin1: sometimes its not that easy for us oklahoma boy to get up wind and the sun at our backs, but i was thinking that it might lure the deer in with the apple scent Jason Moore 12-21-2009, 06:34 PM Scent killer actually makes an apple flavored scent cover. Along with earth smell acorn and so on. Cow manure works well ut you sure stink.:peace: DB 09Dreamseason 12-21-2009, 07:52 PM funny you speak of cow **** DB.......I walked through fresh cow **** every day before I walked into my stand because of that very fact! I just go scent free because cover scents can sometimes smell UNnatural to the deer too. If your state allows feeding/baiting deer then I would just go with natural feed around your stand and let them come to you. In most cases, the smell of the feed will be stronger down wind then you and your scent free.......they may get some of your scent but with the overwhelming smell of the food, they more than likely will come in anyways! I had a buck that circled me twice this year and I knew he smelled me......but the corn I spread out on the ground was too much for him to ignore! Private ranch hunting DOES have it's benefits. For public land I would stay with something like Acorns....... gamoboy 12-21-2009, 08:53 PM it was just a thought question. you know like them weird thoughts you get sometimes and say hmmm i wonder if that will work Daniel Boone 12-21-2009, 08:58 PM it was just a thought question. you know like them weird thoughts you get sometimes and say hmmm i wonder if that will work Or get high so your scent above the game. DB bowtecbowhunter 12-23-2009, 08:10 AM I think it may work in the right situation but lets say you use this apple scent in a pine forest with no apple trees around don't you think that might seem unnatural. gamoboy 12-23-2009, 09:39 PM got above the game today and they never knew i was there. the 2 that came in this evening even came in downwind roosevelt 12-24-2009, 12:39 AM got above the game today and they never knew i was there. the 2 that came in this evening even came in downwind sounds like it's working, i forgot to mention, i do all of my hunting from the ground, i'm sure that makes a difference, i think natural cover scents are a great idea, natural bait scents may even be better, about a month ago i had a bear come into about 8 yds and i know the wind was not perfect, especially for a bear, but i later found there was an elk carcass about 300yds behind me, there is one example where an animal wanted the food smell more than it was afraid of human smell, keep stacking them deer up, sounds like you are having a fun season:peace: |
