Hi, I have been thinking of joining an archery club for sometime now and I have been reading vast amounts of information on the subject. My main hobby is sea fishing but i struggle with distance casting. Would anyone know if i could combine these two hobbies? Would it be possible to tie a baited fishing line onto an arrow and launch it vast distances with any success? The average weight of a fishing lead is 5oz; would I need specialist arrows or even customised ones to make this work?
Any help anyone can offer on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

you might be able to use a crossbow. maybe tape the weight to the arrow some way. with a crossbow you could secure it to table, post are what ever, tie a string to the trigger stand back a way and shoot to see if it will work. I have thought about using a remote control boat. they have all kinds on ebay. tie a lifesaver to the boat so it would hang under water some. run the line though it, run the boat out were you want it. let the lifesaver dissolve and drop the bait. bring boat back. reel in fish. do again.
good luck

a cannon . bring someone with you that can cast it would be safer .

that might work. a fishing caddy. he could carry all the equip. cast it out. hand you the rod. take the fish off. hold yor beer while your reeling it in. also could help the economy by creating new jobs. I think we have a winner here.
