Well well well, the last straw finally snapped in me, AT is on the move!

What's up this time?
Since the harddrive failure last week, AT has been going down every 4-6 hrs due to a failing NIC card that connected the web server to the DB server. I alerted the host to this issue on Wednesday of last week, but they did not address it until yesterday (5 days later). They took down the machine as scheduled at 3pm to replace the NIC, and called me a half hour later to say that it was up and running.

Well, it wasn't. I called them and immediately said that the job was incomplete and I was told someone would be right on it. I went home, and the site was still down, so I called again. I called hourly until I was told that their admin technician had gone home to eat and would be back in two hours. I called at that time (10PM), and they were closed.

So much for 24/7/365 service

This morning I had been on hold for at least 4 hrs combined. They have taken numerous hours to try to switch out a card tomake it work, and finally have now decided to put the old failing card aback in to at least allow it to be functional. That is not good enough for archerytalk. Soo ....

New and shiny!
This morning AT purchased a lease for three new servers, all faster, beefier than what we curently have, for about 200 bucks more. For that money, we have the capacity for hundreds more people, 4 hd drives of mirrored backups, genuine 365/7/24 service that includes a human being calling admin/miked if things go awry, insruance in case of vandalism, and much more. In short, the new site will be far and away the best set up we've ever had.

Great, when can I see it?
Tonight, admin and I will be migrating AT to it's new home and setting it up. Depending on how long it takes DNS to propogate in your area, you will be able to see it either late this evening or tomorrow ish. For some unlucky people, it may take longer - but I will provide the IP address when it's up so that you guys don't have to wait. We are hurrying as fast as we can, we promise.

Final notes
We are anticipating having our dead harddrive to recover from at the end of this week or next week. That should allow us to restore the month of missing attachments, if all goes well.

We truly regret the service we've been unable to provide, and though it is safe to say that it was out of our hands, we want to make sure that you all know we intend to continue to provide the best archery site on the web regardless of how much sleep we have to miss. Thank you very much for your patience, it is genuinely appreciated.

I'm sure its a nice chunk of change... but they also make a killing off their advertising

I don't think so. Have you ever looked at server costs? They have 3 managed dedicated (I hope) servers with high bandwidth costs. Not to mention they now have in-house staff supporting the site.

I think they just chalk it up to advertising costs. Lord knows it has greatly improved thier business model.
