at what distance should i shoot bare shafts for tuning?
to be honest ive never tuned my bows through paper.
I usually let my pro shop tune for me but name im trying to
be a little more pro-active in maintaining my bows.any advice would be super helpful.

Well, what I'm doing is adusting my arrows to correctly spine to my bow, This is a prelude to the process of group tuning..

To do this you will need an arrow saw and fletching jig or as I do install your inserts/nibs with hot glue so you can easily remove them in order to trim the shaft until the correct tune is acheived.

I stay away from the shafts, but if bare shafts are your thing..........knock yourself out.

When you bnare shaft tune you start at 6 feet, then make slight correction thru the movement of noick point and or increasing or lowering the bow peak weight to get the arrow performance for spine.

I have found over the years for me that paper tune just does not work from person to person and how they release the arrow or depending on the type of release used by the archer. I just make sure I get a good nock point, then use baby powder on the rest area / riser and then shoot on arrow, then check for drag marks to see if the arrow is hitting anything on the way out of the rest. I then use walk back tuning to finilize the bow tune.
