How many here feel they could hang against Levi or Broadwater?

I keep hearing this Pro against a Joe thing. Who would step up and shoot against a pro on national TV.

I saw the real show about Pros against the Joes and joes got hammered and killed. Lucky the pros didnt put them in the hospital.

Good thing about archer it wouldnt be harmfull other than your pride.

I would love to say my skill set would make me able to give the Pro's a run for the money but at 68 years young, bald, fat, bad eyesight I kknow that if I ever had the skill set it has left the barn.

I shoot maybe 4 days a week or more, my equiptment is now 5 years old, being on a fixed income, no more yearly hot new bow. Plus I think you must have also not only the physical abilities you have to have that mental mind set of a winner.

But if I could find a bow mfg that wanted to have a hot new bow line they should start one for us older hunters, I sure could do a outstanding job, as I shoot weekly 3D shoots, still on some days can give the young kids a run for the money. Would love to be a tester and or shoot there products at the 3D's or the senior games ( 900 round )

I've shot with Jessie several times, but only in the sense that we happened to be in the same building at the same time.

My scores were pretty much comic relief compared to his. :biggrin1:

In archery, it's so easy to become a pro, that most archers with anywhere close to that skill level will usually pay the extra $ and get their pro card so that they can compete with the best. It takes a person with a pretty high competitive drive to get to that level. So it's unlikely that an amatuer Joe is going to put up that level of score. If he can do it, he's likely already a pro or soon will be.

The only exception that I know of recently is Randy Hinkleman. He was shooting better field scores than almost all of the pros while he was still an amatuer. Of course he turned pro shortly after he won the SOY. But most would hardly consider Randy a "Joe", but he was an amatuer.

probably allot more than you would think .if the manufactures would take the money they spend in some of there advertizing and put it into tournaments where some could win some real money you would be surprized what would come out and play .plus big payouts would probably make it a tv sport . now winning a couple thousand dollars for the amount of time that has to be put in just isnt worth it .

That's what makes the pros the pros, being able to shoot great and consistant under pressure.

If you don't think you can hang with the pros, then you can't... it's as much mental as it it ability...

Did Joseph Goza switch to a release?

Doing quite well. See how easy it is to move from fingers to release.

Realize Josephs a ranging fool. Im not sure he might no be in the top three judges for yardage in 3d.

Joseph switched a year or so ago, Brian and Larry are still flipping the tab.

Gene Curry also switched this year, to Senior Pro.

I have had 2 different shoot offs with one of the best 3d pros out there, Darrin Christenberry. One was at a state indoor and we shot arrow for arrow for about 30min with inside out scoreing. I finally cought a line and he won. The next round was at Eri, Penn at a IBO 3D and I beat him in a shoot off. So I guess I would say a joe can shoot with the pros on some days.

I'll shoot with anyone any time, and have a beer with them when were done. Heck, if it's on the home course, I might even have a beer with them while were shooting.

I got to sit in on the seminar with Dave Cousins & Jessie Broadwater gave last friday.

The question was, "when you were developing your shot, what was the one thing that gave you the most improment?".

Both of them said it was the mental part of the game. They said that for quite a while, they could shoot X's, but when they developed the confidence that every arrow was going to be a good arrow, that's when they started to win.

So there are two of the best archers in the world who agree with Javi.

Would have loved to sit in on that seminar. Those two diffiantly could give some insight to how and why they win.

DB,
I suspect that Dean is as good a resource on how to win as Jessie & Dave, but here are the points that I took from the seminar:
• Confidence – real confidence, not the "self esteem" stuff that they teach in public schools these days. But confidence based on proper practice, where you develop a shot that is the same every time.
• Aiming – don’t do it. Focus your eyes on the X and visualize the arrow going into it. Allow your subconscious to put the arrow there.
• Goal setting – decide where you want to go with your archery, then figure out what you need to do to get there. Sort of a road map. The ultimate goal and the intermediate goals need to be realistic and obtainable.

This is all stuff you’ve heard before. It shouldn’t carry any more weight coming from Dave & Jessie, but somehow it does. But there were 8 to 10 other pro’s in the room listening to these guys. So maybe what they had to say has some merit.

There was a lot of other stuff about tuning, arrows, bows, etc, but the three points above made it worth the drive for me.

I have been to many seminars with some of the best. Sometimes just a few pointers and being around these guys really does help. Randy Ulmer was a great seminar speaker. I enjoy the seminars at the ATA show always. We all know you got to have the talent and drive and time to get to that level of accuracy. What some dont realize some of those guys have been shooting from a young age. Its comes so natural. They make it look way to easy sometimes. I enjoy listening to my Lanny Bassham audio tapes on the way to shoots. Mental game is so much a part of it. Never talk to any pro that said you have to conquer the mental side of archery. Of course there Dean who says just shoot and dont be thinking about nothing but the target. Block it all out and shoot and make it fun.
