What kind of back pack do you use and why do you like it? Or what would you look for in a back pack?

As you all can see I am getting ideas to help me so I can be ready and make sure I am up to the hunt with all of the right gear.

Thanks for all of the help I do appreciate it.

Do you mean like a quiver or for other supplies or a combination quiver-pack?

I use a Primos Bowhunters Vest......plenty of pockets for everything also has a really cool slot in the back where your safety harness goes thru.....so your the back of you shirt and jacket are not pulled down by your life line.......No noisy zippers and everything is always in short reach of your hands.....

I use a small day pack, I don't even know what brand I've had it for so long. The thing that I would look for is some thing with compartments... My pack can be a pain cause you have to dig for stuff. I think my next set up I'll try those Summit leg packs, I hear alot of good stuff about them.

In all honesty I just use a normal EASTPACK backpack that is forrest green. Had it when I started and just keep using it. I would like to get a vest like bowman is talking about I get a little frustrated sometimes especially when I have my climber on my back my bow in one had and the pack in the other:mad2:  sometimes it just seems like too much

I use a Fieldline day pack that has a removable fanny pack that zips to the bottom. I use that and 6 pocket Walls cargo camo jeans. The combination works good for me and is not too heavy to haul up to a stand with a rope.

Oh man, I don't know if I want to say this but Bowman that is a good idea:doh: I never really thought about strapping it to my climber, have always just put the climber on my back grabbed my stuff and I was gone.

he us just humoring you.

Only issue with strapping on your stand is how do you get to it? you have to take your stand off, put it on the ground, then get what you need out and then put the stand back on... its a huge PITA.

I perfer the thigh packs because of easier carrying, I used to use a fanny pack and wear it in front but the stupid thing never stayed in place.

btw - when I get up in the tree I strap my pack to the tree for easy access

Me too. I sewed a bunch of my old military patches all over it, sewed a pouch in it to put a camelback water bladder in, and I'm good to go. I also wear a leafy, long sleeved, turkey hunting vest/jacket thing with a bunch of pockets.

when I am going to my stand the only four things I need are:

range finder...in my breast pocket of my vest.....

Release....already straped to me wrist.....

Bow....in me left hand.....

Arrow.....in me left hand.....

so whats the problem....

GPS? Water / Gatorade? saw? Gloves? Binos?

You pack light young grasshopper! Then again it all depends on how far into the woods I'm heading. If I'm going in a few 100 yards then I could care less, a 1/2 mile or more and its a different story.

What about SNACKS??:hungry:

What about SNACKS??:hungry:

who eats snacks besides frank on thereway to the stand.....

I eat snacks in my stand regularly. Snack Packs, Oreo's that are wrapped 4 to a pack, cheese/crackers that are pre-wrapped from Sam's Club, small orange juice bottles that are pre-packed, hot soup from a wide mouth thermos, etc... That's one of the reasons why my pack is so over-stuffed when I head out.
I'm trying to figure out a way to hang my pack on my climber so I can put the climber on my back. One of my friends suggested carabiner clips. I tried that but it makes too much noise while your walking. Right now I put my pack on my back and carry the bow in one hand and climber in another hand.

usea short peice of cord to tie your pack off to your stand.....or when you tie the 2 peices of the stand together if its a summit there is always strap left over on those great aligator starps......

I have an Ameristep non-typical auminum climber. It's pretty light.

Good suggestion by the way about the long strap.

What I was able to do is sandwhich the pack between the top and bottom climber halves. The strap they give you is about twice the length you need. Putting the pack between the halves worked great.

I agree with radar it does seem like a little much, climbing stand, back pack, bow with quiver on, I found out real quick I didn't need half the junk in the bp. and will try to travel lighter next time out, I am also kinda old, and suffer from to disk problems, I feel some of this is trial and error, and what works for you may not for me:cool:

I have a pac I got several yrs ago from wally, it has a mesh front and is very light that is why I chose it and am very please for this reason. I have used the leg pacs for years , the old type, and find them to be one great assit to my hunting. I also use asat hunting pants with cargo pockets. agian fits my needs to a T. Now that we have given you all these ides we now that you will rush right out and get them all.  :biggrin1: HS
