View Full Version : Top states for P&Y whitetails
There's alot of disscussion with the local hard core bow hunters about which state is top for P&Y boneheads. The majoriity say Illinois, but there are a handful that think either Kansas,Iowa, or Ohio. I think hands down that Illinois Is it because of all the leased land which is managed with food plots and antler restrictions. what do you guys think???
BIGHAWK 06-24-2005, 02:42 PM i think texas is the best
Chris 06-25-2005, 11:05 PM I know IL ranks pretty high. My guess is it is in the top 3. I can't remember the order of P&Y states. Maybe the P&Y website could help.
Darrel 06-26-2005, 10:11 PM I couldn't find anything on PY but Boone and Crockett has a list of the top 10 states

Rack Tracker 07-08-2005, 12:55 PM For us Western Hunters, Idaho and Montana are both good options. The volume of bucks entered in the record books is not as great simply because folks think of these states as "Elk Country". The panhandle of Idaho, along interstate 95 fom Grangeville to the Canadian border is all Wheat country flanked by Douglas fir forests. The outfitters there are starting to offer more Whitetail hunts as they seem to displace more mule deer. If you can hunt Potlatch timer company land (open to public hunting) you can have a DIY hunt in the river canyons.
Chris 07-09-2005, 09:43 AM I thought Kansas would be higher than it is.
Pinky 07-09-2005, 10:29 PM I couldn't find anything on PY but Boone and Crockett has a list of the top 10 states

I could not find any "free" info from P&Y. It appears they offer a record book for purchase. CLICK HERE (https://www.pope-young.org/records.asp) to see the page. The link to the book is in the right hand menu bar at the top. $42.00 and shipping........
P&Y does show the World records.....CLICK HERE (https://www.pope-young.org/worldrecords.asp?id=RECORDS)

lungbuster 03-16-2006, 09:41 PM wisconsin has 13 of the top 50 counties for b&c typicals since 2000. you say big bucks everyone says Buffalo co. But Wisconsin has lots of great whitetail land all over it..
Baraboohunter 03-08-2007, 02:01 PM id have to say wisconsin and illinois are the top two states for p&y im not sure about b&c though
hoyt_hunter007 03-08-2007, 02:33 PM yeah iowa is terrible....for all you out-of-staters, let me save you some trouble, the deer here are puny....never never come here!:biggrin1:
Baraboohunter 03-08-2007, 02:38 PM ok, ill just stay in wisconsin
hoyt_hunter007 03-08-2007, 02:47 PM thank you. :biggrin1:
ridgewalker243 03-08-2007, 04:51 PM @#*!$!!! I was born in the wrong state. Vermont is the at the top of the list for the worst place to hunt in the U.S. I don't think they have entered a P&Y buck in the books in 20 years, so you don't even want to mention Boone & Crockett. When it does come down to big white-tails I think of Illinois, Ohio, Kansas, & Wisconsin. Don't forget those Canadian provinces to.
bullspotter 03-08-2007, 09:28 PM yeah iowa is terrible....for all you out-of-staters, let me save you some trouble, the deer here are puny....never never come here!:biggrin1:
took the words right out of my mouth.
There are no big bucks here in Illinois so STAY OUT OF ILLINOIS

BuckeyeRed 03-10-2007, 02:03 AM According to the stats in Brad Herndon's book "Mapping Trophy Bucks" the P&Y top 10 states list goes as follows:
1. Illinois
2. Iowa
3. Kansas
4. Wisconsin
5. Ohio
6. Indiana
7. Minnesota
8. Missouri
9. Nebraska
10.Kentucky
Wisconsin has more entries than any of the other states but the Wisconsin herd is monstrous in comparison to the other states, so, percentage of entries to herd size drops Wisconsin to 4. I'd list the top 10 counties in each of those states, but gotta keep some hot spots quiet. :tape:
Top 10 B&C States
1. Iowa
2. Illinois
3. Wisconsin
4. Kentucky
5. Ohio
6. Missouri
7. Kansas
8. Minnesota
9. Texas
10. Indiana
MonsterBuckHunter 03-13-2007, 07:31 PM Iowa! It deffinately has the best odds at harvesting a P&Y buck, in my opinion.
