View Full Version : Drop away vane orientation
BowhuntnHoosier 12-31-2006, 09:44 AM Ok, I would like to know what you guys shoot. C o c k vane up or down or does it really matter with a dropaway?? I have always heard it goes up but at the range the other day some guys were shooting with it down and said it really does not matter. I am going to have either the ripcord or TT put on the XT next week and was just curious as to how you all shot. Thanks for the input.:peace:
Radar 12-31-2006, 11:15 AM I shoot mine up, but I did have a different drop away that I shot them down, not sure why.
P.S. Nice new Avatar there Hoosier
I also shoot **** feather up. I use a trophy taker drop-away and get better clearance that way.
I guess I have to spell it c o c k.
I shoot c o c k feather up too.
BUNNYMAN 12-31-2006, 03:42 PM I guess I have to spell it c o c k.
just call it indexing vane as that is the proper name of the "odd" color vane.....
some prefer to call it minority vane.....

Hey now I liked the purple avatar, something different.
I told you after season I was going to try out a drop away with as many arrows as I shoot I wear out alot of biscuits. But do not worry come Season 2007 the WB will be back on.:peace:
And I do not like to call it the minority vane or indexing vane. It is the c o c k vane and always will be. I refuse to be politically correct.

:biggrin1: thought you would like that one....
mlviper35 01-01-2007, 03:02 PM I shoot, odd up. No reason. I know on some DA rest, people shootng tall 4" feathers have hit the rest as it was falling. Which kicked the arrow and so that was why they ran it up. But I think that was on older DA's.
Today, I would say it does not matter.
Regards,
Matt
Frank 01-01-2007, 07:06 PM I shoot a trophy taker drop away and shoot the **** vane up. I did experiment with it when I first got the rest and I never had a clearance problem. I shoot the 2" blazer vanes and clearance is not an issue however you decide to shoot **** feather. I think early dropaways may have had a problem with clearance as mlviper35 stated.

bullspotter 01-03-2007, 09:59 PM  mines up when i shoot!!!!!
Dredly 01-04-2007, 08:37 AM It doens't matter... the whole idea of a drop away is to get it out of the way before the arrow passes. after some testing with arrows that some moron fletched wrong and I've been to lazy to fix its pretty clear to me that they all hit the same spot no matter which way the minority vein goes (btw thats mine you little rat, I expect royalties whenever its used!) :biggrin1:
