and I'm trying to decide what I want to shoot. More then likely I'll be shooting the same dozen for 3-d and Hunting but I don't care about camo color (would perfer black to be honest).

Cost is a HUGE concern.

I don't want to use gold tips, they don't stand up well enough and I'm ready for something new. I like Beman but they are heavy (9.3 gr / inch for the ICS)

So give me some suggestions, I'll be shooting these primarily out of my Old Glory and whatever hunting bow I pickup. Poundage is between 67 - 72 pounds and the arrow will be 29" long, I'm shooting a 30" draw.

suggestions? What is rugged enough to last through a season of 3d (and me missing) and still be good enough for some hunting?

CX maxima 350's........the only arrow that will be in my hunting quiver.....they work pretty good for 3-d also.....

for 3-D right now, its 3-d selects......but the shop I shoot for is a CX fan.....so thats what I use.....

what are you using now???

Right now I'm shooting Goldtip 7595 at 29 inches. I think they are going in the 275 - 285 range but I haven't chronoed it. I'm down to 4 good arrows left which isn't nearly enough for the R100 so I need to order a new dozen but Gold Tips are to pricey and to weak

I started using CX Maxima 350's this year, and they are the best arrows I have ever shot.

I was shooting Beman 500's and just go my Carbon Force arrows. I love them. they are shooting 13 fps faster and my accuracy has improved and I haven't practiced hardly at all since I got them.:peace:

If you want a tuff and big bang for your buck arrow then I would suggest you take a look at Carbon Force X-Weaves. I am totally sold on them. But different strokes for different folks, good luck in your adventure of finding a new arrow.:peace:

I think I'm going to go with the ICS Hunter 340's (I have a man's draw length :biggrin1: )

I've shot his out of my bow and they fly very nice, they are reasonably priced and they are strong as crap.

One of my buddies just got a dozen ICS Hunters and they are very well built. I'd never seen them before that. He chrono'd his old arrows (some junk) against the new ones and I think he said he picked up 10 fps.

sounds good, my dad has been shooting the same dozen for 3+ years now. He even lost one last fall. found it a month ago and it is still shooting perfectly (the tip is rusted to hell though :) )

I also shoot Mathews w/ a SureLoc site... what are you trying to say? :noidea:

Basically its either I spend less on arrows that are still very good quality and go to the D100 or I spend 120.00 on expensive arrows and I don't go.

Cabela's extreme stalker 55/70 are excellent and are made by Easton.
Their website says the straightness factor is .005, but the box I purchased a few weeks ago says .002. The carbon hunters suck, but the extreme stalkers are good. I think the Easton axis are the best and are primarily what I shoot with, but I got the extreme stalkers to try out and plink with. Weight is only 7.9 gpi up to 70 lbs. I shoot a 27" arrow with a 29.5 inch draw to get some kickin' speed. I have a QAD dropaway rest which allows for a shorter arrow--as do others.

What about Easton Lightspeeds, the 340s should work good for both Hunting and 3Ding.

I just started using the carbon force radial x weaves and like them alot. they are About 88 a dozen and 7.4 gpi. With very impressive tolerances. and they are black.

I have no problem with Gold Tips. I shoot the Pros, but only because I shoot real far regularly. The XT hunters are fine. Expeditions are junk. Never had a problem with quality or Durability. I just dug one out of a log over 3 inches deep, and it groups with all the others. I dig them out of 4x4s routinely, and almost never are they cracked or broken. I lose them one year, find them the next, refletch, and they shoot fine.
The nice thing about Gold Tips is that they are available everywhere. At worst you would have to settle for a XT Hunter at even the smallest shop. When you go with a off brand, or store brand, there is no guarantee you will be able to get them again, or quickly. I don't want to wait just to get shafts. They are too basic.
Jay Are gave me a half dozen LightSpeeds, and they shoot at least as well as the Gold Tip Pro, at the same weight and about the same speed.
Don't get junk. Spend $90-$100 on a dozen good shafts. You shoot often enough, and have (reasonably) good equipment otherwise. Why cut your own throat with arrows? You don't need ACE's, but you do need quality in a arrow. If the arrow is junk, the best equipment otherwise won't save your shot. Get the best READILY available to you.

I thought GT was having some production issues since moving their manufacturing out of the US (to Mexico ?). I guess they may have cleared that up by now since a year or so ago everyone was out of GTs with no date when they would ship. I know people who shoot GTs and love them but had to switch because they could not get them...

I pay $70 doz for the bare shafts, that includes the nocks and incerts. I think they are a very good shaft for the price.

The LightSpeed is a good straight arrow, if you don't want GTs. I didn't know they moved production to Mexico. Now I need to look for a new shaft myself. Screw NAFTA. I'll buy American if at all possible, and put a Mexican out of work. Who makes arrows in the USA?

supposedly Victory does...

GT has sent their manufacturing to Mexico but they still assemble them in the US so that they can claim that they are made in the USA.

I was under the impression that most of Easton's arrows were made in the US... Maybe that an incorrect impression...

As for camo finishes, they add about a grain per inch to look pretty. I'll take the 5-6 FPS of a black one instead.

Exactly, and what's the point of having a camo arrow with flourescent nocks and vanes ? :noidea:

If your going to be talked into CX Maximas you might as well go for the gold and get yourself a set of Easton A/C/C's, best arrow money can buy IMO as far as missing is concerned, that is gonna hurt either way. My suggestion is don't miss.:biggrin1: But w/ relative accuracy, A/C/C's should last you a long while.:peace:

Easton (aluminum) still makes arrows in the USA... looks like you need to switch to Easton???? :noidea:

Well I made my choice after reading a lot about some different arrow brands and I think I made a pretty darn good choice.

PSE RadialX Pro 29 in shaft, 200 spine (actually its like .425 or so).
70 grain glue in points
2 inch blazers

The should weigh in right around 315 grains with an FOC of around 8.5.

According to OnTarget I should get speeds exceeding 280 FPS (a lot better then 240 that I'm getting now)

We'll see how they work out.

Another vote for Carbon express Maximas 350. Last year I used GT 75-95 and I went to the maximas and think they are great.
