View Full Version : Best inexpensive 3 blade head
Doc Holliday 07-05-2007, 06:57 PM I only shoot 50-55 pounds @28" draw with 2213 arrows. I'm looking for a good 3 blade head that will give me a clean passthrough.
I understand that the 2 blades will give better penetration but I would like a good blood trail to go with a passthrough. I guess I want everything but who doesn't? :D
Any suggestions that don't cost $10 a piece?
All good heads cost $10 or more other than the muzzys which i have been very happy with. my new favorite is tha g5 montec.

Sorry to hear that. :Cry:
I guess I'll just have to wait till ML season.
thehairlessone! 07-05-2007, 08:12 PM Doc,
i would go with some magnus stingers or buzzcuts if it was me. Or even the new ss.
Alot of broadheads out there are getting pretty pricey
The wac'ems and strikers are nice but around $10 each. They slick tricks are also very popular

BUNNYMAN 07-05-2007, 09:09 PM geta 6 pack of 3 blade muzzy's.....they will run you like 30-40, and are tuff as nails......
sweet old bill 07-06-2007, 05:35 AM I use the eastman terminator x2 titanium 1 inch cutting dia, 017 " blade thickness in 100 gr and the same one in 125 gr for my recurve.... they are a big $6.95 for 3 pack at walmart.
I have used on deer, woodchuck, crow, and rabbit....
I just toss them if I break a blade, so far they seem to do a great job...they are low profile design and fly just like a field point... try them I think you will like them or if you don't you will be only out $6.95 not the 30 to 40 for other high price BH's...
Dredly 07-06-2007, 09:51 AM Muzzy FTW! I love my Muzzy's and a buddy of mine just started shooting MX-4's and they are awesome as well.
For your setup I would go with the MX4.
Doc Holliday 07-06-2007, 06:34 PM I may go back to the old Bear heads. I shot them for years without any problems. Seems fitting for an old dinosaur anyway. :D
red44 07-06-2007, 11:01 PM Wasp hammers or boss.
MeanV2 07-07-2007, 03:02 PM Seems fitting for an old dinosaur anyway. :D
Is that anything like an Ol Fart?
I'm in that Club:cool:

LOL yep. :laugh:
MeanV2 07-08-2007, 12:08 AM Inexpensive 3 blade broadhead??
My choice would be Muzzy's or Thunderheads, still quality heads:cool:
thehairlessone! 07-08-2007, 12:20 AM There arent many broadheads out there that I would consider inexpensive. None that are worth a crap anyways.
Price and performance wise the slick tricks are definately in the top 3 I would think. Maybe muzzy and magnus the other two

:amen: I knew you were a smart man!!
Here I go with my commercial..... Did you know that they are "the only broadhead with a lifetime gaurantee?" That makes them the most inexpensive...cause you only have to buy them once! :peace:
Doc Holliday 07-08-2007, 12:32 AM I've used Muzzys in the past and never had any problems.
After talking with Dan, I am going to have to give those slick tricks a look.
I REALLY liked the "frige" test. If that ain't a testament to their toughness, I don't know what is. And after hearing of a passthrough at 33 yds with only 37 pounds, well, I can't ask for anything more. :thumb:

Very true Pink. Hard to pass up a warranty like that.

Yep. I've killed 5 beavers with them. Great penetration even with their thick tough hides. :thumb:
BTW nice avatar. It looks like you have the perfect dl.
kbohunt 07-08-2007, 01:35 AM Any walmart off-brand will pass-thru a deer,Ive got alot of buddys that buy the ones they can throw away after one hit!
Around $9.00 for 3pk
If you want something a little more, go with Muzzys!:peace:

Thanks....but it was a bit long in that pic. I've shortened it just a hair. :biggrin1:
chuck7413 07-09-2007, 09:06 AM Try the Wasp Hammer SSTs. They are around $35 for a 6 pack and I have used them with great success on deer and bear.
Smooch 07-11-2007, 10:24 PM Wasp Boss or Bullets. Excellent head for the money!
IMO $10 is an inexpensive broadhead.
Bow->$600-900
Shafts->$60-130/dozen
Sight->$50-200
Rest->$50-110
License-> $Anybody's guess
Why would you want to skimp on the very thing responsible for the killing?:noidea: $10/head is pretty cheap IMO.
Now order some G5 Strikers and be done with it.

I bought a pack of those last year just to play around with but I was only able to get 1 of them to spin true. It was no biggie, at least I wasn't out much money.
I think I'll just stay with the Bear heads. You know, "dance with the one that brung ya". :)
Gator eye 07-12-2007, 07:50 AM Look in some of the discount archery online stores(sportsman warehouse) and check out the old "Gold tip Gladators" broadheads.
They are really cheep and I ve had real good luck with them. Over the last two year I ve shot ten or so deer with them and always a clean kill. Make a good shot get a clean kill.
Good luck.
Doc Holliday 07-12-2007, 04:34 PM Not much on mechanicals.
Kinda ruins the whole dinosaur theme. :D

Doc, gotta agree with you there. It has always bewildered me why a guy will spend all that money on bow, arrows, accessories, hunting clothes, tree stands, etc., etc. then go cheap on the part that does the killing.:noidea:
To each their own!:biggrin1:
poorman 07-13-2007, 06:51 PM I've got some 125 grain Thunderheads you can have if you want em.
Doc Holliday 07-13-2007, 07:08 PM My bow cost me $100 and I can bust nocks with it at 30 yds
My sight cost me $70 5 years ago and it still works just fine
My rest cost me $15 and still does the job just fine
My arrows cost me $30 3 years ago and still fly true
Now why would I want to spend $10 a piece for heads when I know for a fact that the Bear heads can get the job done for $3 a piece? :biggrin1:
I finally realized that I don't have to spend a ton of money on bows or equipment to shoot well. I even shot a 300 5 spot with that old $100 bow. :peace:
But if I do happen to run into some extra cash, I may be pm'ing you MeanV for some of those fancy Slick Tricks.
Doc Holliday 07-13-2007, 07:11 PM I've got some 125 grain Thunderheads you can have if you want em.
Thanks for the generous offer, you are very kind, but you should try and give them to someone local. Maybe a newbie archer to get them started. :)

I have already given a few sets away on AT giveaway forum and that is probably where these are headed. I just dug em out the other day. I also have some 2117's I need to give to someone in need of arrows. So If you know anyone that really needs either of the two just let me know.:biggrin1:

How long are the 2217's? How many?
PM sent. :D
Doc Holliday 07-13-2007, 08:05 PM Well, it looks like I'll be using 2117's and thunderheads this season.
Thanks again Ron. :)

No problem. Just show me a pic when you seal the deal on that deer.

tedicast 07-13-2007, 10:41 PM Wasp Boss or Bullets. Excellent head for the money!
You beat me to it...that was gonna be my suggestion too. At about $34/6pack, they are relatively cheap. The Boss Bullets fly like darts, and are a devestating little head.
