Cameron 07-27-2007, 06:55 PM What is your max range to shoot a deer (and get your desired results), all things being ideal for such a shot? Now that I am back shooting at least once a week, I have no problem taking a 45 yard shot on a deer. I am certain I am good to about 60, but I think 45 is far enough. BUNNYMAN 07-27-2007, 06:56 PM 30 yrds is my outer limit......we are bow hunting here.....your supposed to get them close....:noidea: lungcutter 07-27-2007, 07:03 PM 40 yards is as far as i'm willing to shoot at a deer. as long as the conditions are right. 62flint 07-27-2007, 07:05 PM For me about 30 yards. I can shoot killing size groups farther. I just don't feel comfortable shooting a critter farther than that. To much in my mind that can go wrong. Besides my longest shot at a deer yet is about 25 yards. If I want to kill them across the field I will use my 270. :biggrin1: poorman 07-27-2007, 07:16 PM 40 yards for me. I am working on moving back to fifty just in case I ever get the chance to go out west. J.C. 07-27-2007, 07:27 PM 25-30, but I prefer 10. :biggrin1: BUNNYMAN 07-27-2007, 07:33 PM 25-30, but I prefer 10. :biggrin1:    punchfree 07-27-2007, 08:00 PM 25 to 35 yards is ok for me(comfort zone),but I will shoot confidently out to 45 gmherps 07-27-2007, 08:09 PM What is your max range to shoot a deer (and get your desired results), all things being ideal for such a shot? 40 yards is it! beenfarr 07-27-2007, 08:39 PM 42 yards (that's as far as I can shoot in my yard for practice), if the conditions are perfect. Ben lungcutter 07-27-2007, 09:01 PM 42 yards (that's as far as I can shoot in my yard for practice), if the conditions are perfect. Ben How did you come up with 42 as your distance:noidea: Why not 40 or 45? OKbowhunter 07-28-2007, 05:34 AM 50 yrds. with the right conditions. I killed one 2yrs ago at this distance. Double lung shot, complete pass through, and the deer went down within 75 yrds. I do put in the practice time to make this shot without hesitation. Most of my shots come at 25-30 yrds though. BowhuntnHoosier 07-28-2007, 07:23 AM Perfect conditions..................30yards. With a wild critter there are too many variables for me.:peace: Dens228 07-28-2007, 08:54 AM I'd go 30-35 yards. That's the limit on my backyard shooting. Holy Smokes 07-28-2007, 10:17 AM I practice out ta 46 yards from my treestand in a walnut tree. 40 has been tha farthest I knew tha yardage and it was a clear shot-and mind you I practice nearly everyday shootin and with my equipment ,broadheads for 5 weeks prior to tha season. Whih by tha way is only 8 weeks away. praise God! Yup conditions will rule. I do stronly suggest and greatly prefer tha 10 yard range as mentioned earlier. I would also suggest that ya take a Bowhunter Education Course even if ya have been huntin' fer many years for it is so valuable in all aspects of huntin' and especially tha shootin' parts. Jay Are 07-28-2007, 10:49 AM I try to stay under 30 yards from a treestand... but I did shoot a little one 2 years ago at about 35 yards. Knocked all the spots off when I hit it! Holy Smokes 07-28-2007, 11:40 AM I try to stay under 30 yards from a treestand... but I did shoot a little one 2 years ago at about 35 yards. Knocked all the spots off when I hit it! You know tha shot placement word .. Pick a spot. So if they got spots .....Pick one! brokenarrow 07-28-2007, 01:50 PM I like to keep them inside 30...but if I have to I'll take a 40 with confidence... papito 07-28-2007, 01:59 PM Its all about confidence kbohunt 07-28-2007, 04:50 PM 30-35yds I likem under 28yds because i use only 1 pin on 28yds. Most shots ive taken were 12 to 22 yds on the last 4 deer. The longest was 41yds but it was wide open on a gas line. Didnt like to take it but it worked in those conditions!:biggrin1: tedicast 07-28-2007, 06:00 PM My hunting bow only has a 20, and a 30 yard pin. That should tell you my comfort range. sweet old bill 07-28-2007, 08:14 PM several years ago the DEC published a review of the bow season and in it was the number of reported deer taken and at the yarage of the kill. 95% of all deer killed were taken at under 25 yards. the rest were over 25 yards.... If you look within the 95% a lot of the deer taken were from treestrands adn were less than 15 to 20 yard as a max... I myself maybe due to were I like to hunt I can almost say in the early season it is hard to see over 25% yards in that first 1/2 hour of light or the last 1/2 hour of light... so I like when I have them under 20 yards...I have only once in 40 years + of hunting shot and taken a buck over 35 yards... Jay Are 07-28-2007, 08:40 PM You know tha shot placement word .. Pick a spot. So if they got spots .....Pick one! Hey -- Live and learn, it was good Eatin and would do it again! :biggrin1: kbohunt 07-28-2007, 08:51 PM Hey -- Live and learn, it was good Eatin and would do it again! :biggrin1: Ha, young backstraps are even better! Jay Are 07-28-2007, 08:52 PM Ha, young backstraps are even better! And you don't even need bacon! kbohunt 07-28-2007, 08:55 PM And you don't even need bacon! Gotta have da bacon! Holy Smokes 07-28-2007, 09:03 PM Ha, young backstraps are even better! What do ya mean it is all tenderloin :D kbohunt 07-28-2007, 09:08 PM What do ya mean it is all tenderloin :D Ya got a polnt! j3dGuam 07-31-2007, 06:31 PM I'm good to 50 but yesterday I had a wild hog stand broadside at me at 40 yds and I found myself trying to seek in closer:noidea: BuckeyeRed 07-31-2007, 06:36 PM If its wide open and the deer is calm, 60yrds. But in the hardwoods I usually never get past 40. Ronhop 07-31-2007, 06:49 PM 10 to 30 but I practice out to 50, but thats more for fun. I think a 30 yard shot on a big game animal is a fair shot and one we should work at to be the best we can be. Ron killbambidead 07-31-2007, 07:37 PM as close as the dumb animal will come .. 45 max thehairlessone! 07-31-2007, 08:17 PM I have never shot past 25 but I think 40 would be my max on deer sized animals under the right conditions. I can group well past that but I wouldnt be comforable with it. Now elk or buffalo or something like that I would stretch it out a bit further. My closest shot has been about 3 yds. straight down and my furthest was 25 yds. rick bullspotter 07-31-2007, 10:50 PM With all things ideal, 50 is max on a white tail for me, I have seen them jump the string at 15, max on elk is 75, but thats got to be a good bull and IDEAL conditions... or if im really hungry...... Gator eye 08-01-2007, 08:11 AM Thirty yards for me. And that's if I had a for sure range on the deer and the deer relaxed. Scablands 08-01-2007, 08:26 PM Always try for 30, am quite comfortable at 40 and will shoot 50 if things are just right. 40 yds with E-Force bows http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m203/heartland_2006/IMG_0549.jpg http://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m203/heartland_2006/IMG_0697.jpg 40 yds with Allegiancehttp://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m203/heartland_2006/IMG_0477.jpg 50 yds with E-Forcehttp://i105.photobucket.com/albums/m203/heartland_2006/IMG_0651.jpg BUNNYMAN 08-01-2007, 09:01 PM dude you put your targets thru there paces.......:noidea: jkg3117 08-01-2007, 09:18 PM i would have to say in the woods under 30, i would do 40 in a field, if the animal wasn't spooked. i guess i am a better safe than sorry kinda guy:biggrin1: shoot straight-Jim IChim2 08-02-2007, 10:32 AM 30-32yds max.My pins are set @ 20,30 and 50 and i practice @ 50 alot but that pin comes off @ the start of the season..I'll save the longer shots for gun season. Colo_Lee 08-02-2007, 12:07 PM still looking for mine  MeanV2 08-02-2007, 08:14 PM Every place and situation is different. There are places I hunt I could not get a 20 yard shot, but if conditions are right I have confidence to take that 50 yard shot. This Mulie was shot at 51 yards. Not much cover in the area I was hunting as you can tell:cool: Scablands 08-02-2007, 09:20 PM 30-32yds max.My pins are set @ 20,30 and 50 and i practice @ 50 alot but that pin comes off @ the start of the season..I'll save the longer shots for gun season. In wash. there is no gun season if you decide to hunt with archery gear. You have to pick your weapon, rifle, muzzleloader or archery. You only get one deer tag per year also. kbohunt 08-03-2007, 09:05 PM Every place and situation is different.
