Hi all,

I've been shooting traditional bows only and I am quite happy and enjoy shooting them, but... I've decided to try hunting with compound as well :)

Anyway, at the local archery shop I've been recommended Mathew's Ovation. I like the way it feels in my hands and reviews are rather good for this bow, but..... with 1 pin fiber sight, silencers and limb savers (or whatever they are called) it'll cost me around $800.... and that got me thinking if it really worth that much or if there's better/cheaper alternatives.

Any ideas are welcome :)

Thanks

Shoot a bunch of bows and pick the one you like best. That is the best policy when shopping for new bows, just shoot them, then let your wallet or wife decide which one from the ones you like! Good luck

You can get a used, but in super condition, Ovation for $350 in the classifieds over on archerytalk.com.

$800 sounds awful high for a bow that isn't made anymore.....:noidea:

Thats kinda what I was thinking too, i'm not real familiar with Mathews models but I new the Ovation was an older model. $800 is the upper end of the price range for the new 08's! Someone my be trying to pull one over on our new forum member....

Unless you are shooting with fingers (which you might be) an Ovation wouldn't be my first choice in a hunting bow anyway.

Thanks a lot,

I'll try to find a used one, as $350 sounds much better for a first bow :)

And yes, I'm planning to shoot with a tab at least for some time.

If you are wanting a Mathews, the Conquest 2 and 3, and the Ovation would all make good finger bows without breaking the bank.

ovations are good bows.
8 bills for a used ovation is way high.
conquests are faster and about the same specs.
i had an ovation and with string silencers was very quiet and smooooth drawing also.
good solid stable bow.
i put crackers strings on mine and it was a shooter.
now i wish i still had it.:frusty:

Welcome to the forum...

I think JCM nailed it...
Look for a used Ovation, or Conquest...

Good luck and keep us posted...and don't forget WE LOVE PIC'S...:D

Thanks again, I've found a couple used ovations in $275-300 range for bare bow and in the process of negotiating details.

Oh, and I have a couple of noobie questions, but.. will probably start a new thread on it.
