Had the most intense encounter lastnight that I have ever had.. I saw this buck in August in velvet while nuisance shooting does on farm. I have lots of photos of him all at night, never got to see him on hoof till lastnight. This is how it went, I've been building 140'x60' metal quanset storage build up on 180acre corn and rye farm field edge. My stand is not far from site so hence why deer action had slowed there as we began this project 2 1/2weeks ago. Lastnight I finished up at 425pm knowing I still had 40mins of light decide to glass a couple of wagon roads on farm. First road I come down I see monster hoof prints, I stop at a point that had been flooded out from recent rains walk around corner and look down a hedgerow. At that point I saw a body of a deer, it was'nt until I went back and got my binos saw that it was a buck and looked good. He was walking from east to west and we had a east wind at about 10mph, I saw he was coming my way so,(mind you he was still 400 plus yrds away) I run back to truck throw on camo jacket, camo hat, face mask grab bow and release. The deer was across a 350yrd rye field at the edge of some corn, when I returned to field edge he had moved back towards corn since a doe appeared. Since I only had 20mins left of light I decided just to kneel down 2 rows in standing corn and watch him. As soon as got settled in he was back walking across rye towards me, I mean right at me. He came on a fast walk straight me and within mins was right in front of me. I drew back when he was 30yrds out but he kept coming so I let him since the only shot I had would be straight on. Well he walked till I could'nt take anymore, I could hear his breathe and his chest filled my sight. I shot him straight on at 8 FEET, blood instantly arrow went in deep right to fletching he turned around and piled up in 50yrds with what looked like a garden hose of blood coming from his chest... Most unbelievable hunt ever my biggest deer to date, and I'M STILL SHOOK UP....
He broke off a few tips, but it's fine with me.

I am.

Gun season starts here this weekend and in OK we can carry both weapons while hunting. I'm primarily going to be bowhunting, but my rifle will be hanging on a limb within arms reach "just in case".

Anybody else doing this or are you diehard, bow only?

I am planning a archery tournament in my local area for a school fundraiser and was wondering what would be a good admission price to shoot. just wondering if any of you have an idea on how much it might cost and what is an appealing fee to shoot. Im located in portage,WI and thought that it would be a good idea. i thought maybe that the local archery population would want to support our schools tech club. the club is called skills USA. we compete in competitions around the state. we compete in things like automotive troubleshooting, welding, small engine, team problem solving, architecture, solid works and other related fields. these competitions that we go to cost about 50 to 100 dollars a person. this fundraiser gives everybody a fair chance to compete. if you could give me some ideas that would be great.
you can contact me by posting or you you can contact me at Davenportspencer@portage.k12.wi.us
