    Default every one safe ?

I was outside putting my treestands in the garage, with season ending yesterday, and i started thing about safety.
Hope you all had safe hunts out there this year.
My question is did anyone here have a close call of getting seriously hurt?
The reason for this question is so some of us dont make the same mistake next year.
If you did tell us what happened?
This is for tournys or hunting?
    Thanks for your replys.

I made the mistake of not taking water with me on an all day hunt in the mountains. I had the gps and was not worrying about where I went, just walking along. By the middle of the day I needed water bad, but it was sitting on the table at camp

Paying attention to the little things on the hunt can make a difference.

I learned a lot of things this season...

    Lesson number 1:

    DON'T SHOOT BOWTECH

    Lesson number 2:

"Good enough for hunting" = wounded deer

    Lesson number 3:

Always check your equipment and actually shoot it during the hunting season... mine sits in my truck for 3 months... still have no idea when my rest moved

    Lesson number 4:

THERE ARE NO DEER IN MAINE! (still)

    Lesson number 5:

While learning Lesson Number 4 it helps to have lots of beer on hand... its only one letter off... close enough right?

    Lesson number 6:

Tag soup tastes just as bad this year as it did 2 years ago

    Lesson number 7:

The more time spent in the woods the cooler the stuff you see and the better your chance of shooting something

I learned some valuable lessons this year from 3dshoots.com as well....

    Lesson number 1:

If you understand what Smokes is saying, you are from the south. If you don't understand what Smokes is saying, you are from the north. If you understand what Smokes is saying AND you are from the north, then you are a 3dshoots.com addict. STEP AWAY FROM THE KEYBOARD!

    Lesson number 2:

If I want to shoot a good buck in PA I have to follow Sin around.
If I want to shoot a button buck in PA I have to follow Werd around
If I want to shoot a doe I have to travel to Smoke's house

    Lesson number 3:

If Werd draws his bow or shoulders his shotgun... DUCK!

    Lesson number 4:

IF I need tracking help talk to Kenny... if that doesn't work... the deer ain't dead!

    Lesson number 5:

If you shoot the same deer twice and it doesn't die its the bows fault.
    No I'm not dead

I guess I had a close call on my bear hunt. It was the first days hunt and I had walked down the path and dirt road to the pick up point, it had gotten pitch black out. I heard a bull moose raking and calling so being as this was the first time I've ever even been in the same woods as a moose I started trying to mimic his call for a few minutes.

While this is going on my guide pulls up with one of my buddies in the truck and they both have huge grins. I ask them what's so funny? They ask me, didn't you see it? I say see what? They reply, the bear sitting on the road 20-30 feet away watching you..............

Well, no I didn't. But I bet the bear was thinking, "That's a pretty small moose, I bet I can take him"

    Red face

I fell out of a ladder stand a couple years back, no, not on my head , but landed flat on my back and damn near blew the guts out my arse.

    Lessons learned:

    1) Don't count on a dead tree branch to support your weight as you lean out on prune tree branches. Especially if you are as fat as me.

    2) Wear a damn safety harness!!!!

Don't hang your deer in a cooler if it feels warm
lost that 1st one out in w tn to a warm cooler
Pay attention ta where you are headed down tha road after a hunt for tha stops sings or a block bldg will stop ya
If ya git a 23 yds shot at a good buck in tha head or hips take it, i took one at 90 later and got it
Put you preciuos knife back in tha holster after ya dress a deer.
    Hunt more with close friends

    Thats funny you mentioned that.
Last week i was at home took a day off from huntin and got a phone call.
a guy from the club had shot a deer some 35miles up the road way back in a swamp.
we went down there and he barely hit this deer in the neck with a 6mm rifle
I tracked that thing thru water and marsh, creeks 6ft deep and we almost gave up after 4 hrs in the dark and i seen white on this little island some 75yds with the flashlight my bud had to swim out there and there he was.
    Awesome buck 10pt around 140-150 with a 22in spread.
what a story to tell about this buck, i could wright a book on this 1 track job.
Anyway he was ripped threw his wind pipe and nothing else and he went around 1/4 to 1/2 mile laid down and bled out,if this deer was on solid ground my bud would have pushed him and never got him.
My bud keep's callin and thankin me.
The funniest thing about the journy was i kept askin him, Now How Big did u say he was,and he would say a Monster.
Well he was i didnt believe it until i seen it
Thanks for replyin Dreadly and u need help im here 4 u bud

When u said cables on treestands i got a chill.
Yep i worry about them little things too.
But my new harness system i started using this year took my mind off of them.

There is a saying that is on the wall at our hunt club that the members came up with which i live by.

" There aint no deer in this world worth killing yourself for "
Be safe next year lets keep the trend goin!

one more thing i learned on 2 seperate ocations this year.....

if you drive a Dakota and you put something in the back......be careful and tie stuff down........

nothing like having the GRILL inside the truck with you......
I cut things up and split them down!
