Default How cold is too cold.

I was going to go to a 3d shoot this morning but it is like -7 here this morning. I have heard from a few people that shooting a bow outdoors in sub zero weather is pretty hard on a bow. Is that true? How cold is too cold and what rules of thumb do some of you use to determine if its too cold to shoot.

I don't think it would hurt the bow at -7 but If I am not comfortable shooting then it's to cold. I used to hunt in weather like that but usually I just ended up sick so I tend to hold out for a little warmer weather..

I was going to shoot in my first 3d tournament today but I admit I am a *****. It could be worse it could be real windy.

I think your form would suffer more than your bow.

Its up to 0 now. Not much wind the shoot is until 3 so maybe I will give it a go. Its not bad if there isnt wind.

    Without a doubt Scotty...
    I am as die-hard as anyone but I wouldn't even consider a 3d at -7(a hunt maybe but not a 3d... )

As for your equipment, I don't think it would hurt it but it may affect it's performance a little...not sure about that either though. Best thing to do is Email or call the manufacturer.

yea. your form would be the worst part. it would be buck fever the whole time shooting.

I have to agree. The bow will not suffer but my shaking would be bad at -7. Unless its around 30 or higher I don't think I could do it comfortably.

the best way I know to tell if it is to cold to shoot is to open a can of vienna sausage. turn it upside down. if the juice wont run off , get back in truck, eat them and go home.
