Quick! I need an idea!!!
The boys scouts are having an activity Wednesday night. They have asked me to do something Archery for them. It is some kind of "Light Ceremony" with an Olympic theme.
Their first idea was to shoot a flaming arrow (somehow, I don't believe that will work out of my compound bow)
So, do you have any ideas on how I can shoot a brightly lit arrow for them? This will be while it is still light outside and I do have 2 child bows I can shoot to get some kind of arch out of it. I might even take Alyssa and let her shoot with me.
Would this work?? If I taped some kind of shiny streamers to the tip of my arrow. They would be on the tip, so I don't THINK they would get hung up anywhere on my bow (or the child bow)

is it like a football field length?
your bow will have to hit a target or it will sail out of sight
short range..try the kids bow..take a cotton ball.screw the tip thru it.lighter fluid,( not gas ) get some one to light it and off a low poundage recurve..id do it.... ( BE CAREFULL )
at night off your compound, a lighted nock a target some sparklers beside a ballon on a target thats about it.
sorry thats all i got..

How about some of those chemical light sticks that kids make bracelets and necklaces out of? Maybe you could tape them to the arrow shaftFBSA Member

We used to do it for an OA ceremony (boy scouts) I'm guessing this a cub event? Anyway we used a low poundage recurve, wrapped the arrow with some cloth - use some wire to hold in on - and soaked it in a little kerosene. Worked well - you'd nock the arrow holding it down while giving your talk, (this let any extra kerosene drip off - important safety tip) after you're done blabbing you'd the light the arrow from a smudge pot, draw - not too far back now - don't scortch you hand and shoot. We had a pond for a landing zone so that helped. Did it more than once, worked well.Bear Grizzly, Beman Centershot/Steelforce , Legacy Quiver

Cotton ball with the tip screwed through it to hold it on. "Soak" the cotton ball in petroleum jelly. Light it with a match and draw it back. I have used this to light a fire I did not want to get close to because some smart @$#% had used a five gallon can of gas and about 10 gallons of diesel fuel to soak the brush to get it started with. Fuel was less than an 8th the price then. Should have seen the flames when that sucker lit. We could feel the heat from 30 yards almost instantly, neighbor drove in to see how we lit it as they saw the flames! One of those days. At least I didn't singe my beard that time!
One of the fastest bows is not the ideal thing for this. A genesis would be good. I used an old recurve from high school competition for the above mentioned brain wave!Mathews Switchback 63# 29"

Dont get me wrong I am a BSA leader of 10yrs, and have no problem with female leaders, just wanted to let Slippy know that the old rules are out.
wheely- what age group- mabey you can set a target with ballon to pop. Some times the more simple the better for young ones. I know BSA policy and they would probally filp out over a flaming arrow, but I could be wrong.Mathews Ovation 60 lbs 29 Dl- Ranger custom Strings

So, I went out in the yard today and taped just a couple pieces (4) of shimmering, gold ribbon to an arrow to see what it would do....I was standing 30 yards from my target, when I released the arrow, it took a sharp nose dive right through the center of the garden hose at 20 yards
They want 'fast' arrows, so I will be shooting my Mathews with nothing fancy on the arrows
