Default Remember our Veterans Guys this fall

I gotta call yesturday from a veteran yesturday that someone told him I might be able to take in the field to harvest a deer. I ask this veteren what his disablity was? He said he took a mortar shell attack and still has metal lodged in his head. I told this guy Ill be more than proud to take him out to shoot a doe. Whether its youth or verteran or just a new hunter share the harvest Many of us are blessed to have good land to hunt. Its you that will be truly blessed after the hunt.
    Thanks DB

Saw a show on the Boob tube the other day where by Texas makes a big deal out of taking veterans hunting.
Thought it was a damn nice gesture.

I have a nephew of a friend of mine coming this week to hunt before he goes to Afghanistan on a second tour of duty.

That is a great thing you did, good for you!

Not picking you DB, and perhaps I missed part of the story. Not all veterans are automatically disabled. Or perhaps we are and just don't know it yet... I often wonder if/when some mutant disease is going to crop up from exposure to who-knows-what, while over in The Sand Box

A veteran is defined by federal law, moral code and military service as follows :
" A military veteran is any person who served for any length of time in any military service branch."

So, someone who was in boot-camp for one day and gets kicked out is considered a veteran.

What separates Active Duty from Veteran is that a veteran has been issued a DD-214.. The Defense Department issues to each veteran a DD-214, identifying the veteran's condition of discharge - honorable, general, other than honorable, dishonorable or bad conduct.

Then, there are some fols who are veterans and are also active duty or reserves ... For example, a Reservist recalled to active duty will receive a DD-214 upon completion of his/her recall orders and transitioning back to Reserve status. (I currently have have 4 DD-214's) and even though I am a veteran I am also on active Duty.. confusing, eh?
