Default 27.5 Trykon XL speeds of 302-304

Ok now for all of you Trykon shooters what kind of speeds are you getting? On another forum a fella states that his Trykon XL 27.5" DL at 70#DW is shooting 302,303,304. Which is alot higher than I have seen at the shop from some other Trykons. The fella does not know how much his arrows weigh though. Which seems strange to me if I am shooting a brand new bow I think I would make sure I was at or above the 5gpi min. He is shooting GT Ultralight 400's 7.4gpi at 27.5" with 100gr tips which would be around 303.5gr. He is shooting 4" feathers I am not sure how much they would weigh???? So are any of you seeing these kinds of speeds from this bow? I just hope he does not damage his bow because he is not aware of the min. gpi.

Your math is a little off for computing the arrow weight. 303gr is what the shaft and point weigh. Add to that fletching (4" vanes?), insert, and nock and the total comes to about 354gr. Is he using wraps? Add another 10gr. Maybe he's using Blazer vanes--subtract about 15 gr. He's still pretty close to the 5gr/lb rule. What all is on the string? This is like adding weight to the arrow, too, only it's there all the time. So, it's very possible he's within the limits specified for warranty purposes.

Is the speed he's getting attainable? Possibly. Only the chrono knows for sure, and they can vary some. We know that.

For example I had a 2004 Martin SlayR/ Nitrous cams, 53# and 27.5" draw, 267gr arrow (5gr/lb) that was shooting 308 fps. Shortened it to 27" and it was still doing 299 fps. Just couldn't make that magical 300 fps when shortened up, LOL.

The reason I posted this is a fella at the shop is shooting a Trykon at 28" at 70# and a 360gr arrow and is only getting 290fps and I was curious. I posted that the fella getting 304 was shooting 3 4" feathers and was not sure what total weight was but thought he maybe should weigh his arrows to be sure he was above the 5gpi min. I am not saying the bow will not shoot that fast but was trying to warn him that he may be below min. And if he is below the min. then that may be why the fella at the shop cannot get his any faster. Just was curious if anyone here was getting that kind of speed and then would find out all the specs.(weight on string,bh,ata, cam rotation, arrow weight) to try and help the fella at the shop.

ok hers my #s did alot of plying this weekend got my hunting arrows dialed in!! Hoyt trykon, not the xl, at 69 lbs 28.5 draw, easton fmj weight was 450 speed was 266 acc3-49weight was 495 speed was 286 easton fb 400 with 80 grain glue in points, forgot to get the weight but they chronod at 308. I just replaced the cams to give me .5 longer draw and got about 5 to 7 fps more out of it with the acc arrows at 69 lbs and 28.5 draw. seems to me the fat boys weight was around 340 grains... hope this helps!!!

Dude was the weight of that second arrow supposed to be 395gr instead of 495gr. If not you gained 20fps and added 45gr?????

You know you just made me think about a Trykon I did see at the hoyt shop one day, the guy is about my sive so I would assume about a 27"-28" draw, shooting a gold tip series 22 prolite, the bow looked sick...Gold bow, gold stabilizer, gold rest, gold sight, yellow fletchings, gold and black strings, you get the picture....I saw it shot thru the crono at 301....so is it possible? yes, I do not know the weight the weights of the arrows or his draw weight, but it did shoot 301,300,301, three shots.

Ha..... MAGIC ARROW thats funny. So the guy could get 300fps but you do not know the specs. I'll tell the fella at the shop to just keep on tweaking a little. Maybe send it to Crackers get a little of his MAGIC DUST.

Sounds like a tall tale, I shoot Trykon XL with a 28" DL at 65# with 348 gr arrow and get 279 - 280 FPS. IBO on the bow is 314 fps so with 2 1/2" less DL I would doubt he could get to 300 FPS. If he is getting 300 + FPS second he should post his set up so we can all copy it.
