I use an old Casio watch called 'fishin time'.
It uses moon phases and location in the sky to make a recommendation of the best hunting/fishing times.
I have used it for well over 10 years and it's pretty uncanny how well it seems to work. Although for deer, the weather and the rut both can throw the moon phase thought process out the window...

I'll be out there this afternoon around 2:00 until sun down.

I believe mine is about 10 years old. Looks like the devil and has been through several watch bands but the sucker still works...

Some places you'll see more in the morning, some places you'll see more in the evening, and I know a place where I tend to see them mid day. But if I can stay on stand all day, I'll usually eventually see something.
The only time you're guaranteed not to see one? When you're home on the couch.

I agree some places are better morning or evening places but during the rut Lone Predator has it right, stay out as much as you can.

    90% scouting and 10% hunting

Just get out there and learn what the deer in your area are doing.

In the 3 places i go... 30 miles apart, it is different at each place.. The factors are pressure, food & water, & security!

I see more deer in the early morning and late evening except during peak rut. Even knowing this I still get in the woods as much as I can regardless of what time of day it is. Case in point. I slept in yesterday till 7 am. I got in the woods by 9:30 and scouted an area for late December bow hunting, hoping to spot and stalk something in the process. I decided to hunt a stand in a swamp near by. I got in my tree about noon. BY 2pm I spotted a doe brousing her way in my direction. She turned and slowly moved away so I tried a sinlge doe bleat. She broused her way back towards me. After about 30 min. or so since I first spotted her, I got a broadside shot at 20 yards. That deer is hanging in my garage right now. I never would have got it had I let "reason" determine when to hunt that spot. However, there are some spots I save for prime rut hunting only. I don't disturb these areas unless I can get in well before light and hunt 'till at least 2, if not all day.

    Default my time

I like about 9 am. For the past 3 years has been the time for me to kill my bucks. I have a nice 8 pt on the wall that was shot at 1030, a 10 pt on a plaque that was shot at 9 and another 6 point on a plaque that was shot at 9 am. I really like that time of the morning, 9-11. I live in WV.

Bar none mornings are better during the rut for me. Ive seen a mature buck almost every single morning Ive hunted this year. I have only seen one in the evening hunts. At least this is the way it is on our farm

Generally speaking, I have found the mornings to be better. That has held true (mostly) over the past 20 years of hunting about 10 different private lands and some public. That's not to say the evenings aren't real good sometimes, because they are. Lots of big deer get killed during afternoon/evening hunts.
