Hailing Barack Obama's win as a victory for the "working class," the Communist Party USA is calling on the president-elect to carry out his promises, including his noted commitment to "spread the wealth."

An editorial by the People's Weekly World said the victory was for "workers of all job titles, professions, shapes, colors, sizes, hairstyles and languages."

The newspaper, which boasts of its "partisan coverage," identifies itself as "a national, grassroots weekly newspaper and the direct descendant of the 'Daily Worker.'"

    (Story continues below)

"We are partisan to the working class, racially and nationally oppressed peoples, women, youth, seniors, international solidarity, Marxism and socialism. We enjoy a special relationship with the Communist Party USA, founded in 1919, and publish its news and views," the publication states.

The paper said Obama's victory is "important not only for people here in the U.S., but also for our sisters and brothers around the world."

"The election outcome represents a clear mandate for pro-people change on taxes, health care, the war in Iraq, job creation and economic relief, union organizing and the Employee Free Choice Act. Reform and relief are in the air. Their scope and depth will be the arena of struggle. The best thing the coalition that won this victory can do is to stick together and help the new administration carry through on its promises," the editorial said.

"Jubilation and celebration, yes, along with realization that the hard work is just beginning," the PWW editorial said.

Obama's commitment to "spread the wealth" was caught on tape as he talked with an Ohio voter, "Joe the Plumber," who became a personality in the 2008 election campaign for the exchange in which he suggested Obama's plan sounded like socialism.

Obama's media team did not respond to a WND telephone message and e-mail requesting a comment.

Michelle Obama has made similar commitments, warning that some Americans may have to give up a piece of the pie in order that others may have a larger share.

Samuel L. Blumenfeld, a WND columnist, earlier cited Obama's history of links to significant players in the communist effort in the United States.

"In his famous autobiography, 'Dreams From My Father,' Obama reveals that his earliest mentor in Hawaii was a man by the name of Frank Marshall Davis. It so happens that Davis had been sent to Hawaii in the late 1940s by the Communist Party to organize the party in Hawaii," Blumenfeld wrote.

"Davis had begun his communist career in Chicago. He was a friend and associate of Paul Robeson, the great singer, and Harry Bridges, head of the communist dominated International Longshoremen and Warehousemen's Union. Both men were secret Communist Party USA members."

Blumenfeld sees sees the impact of those influences in Obama's vision for the country.

"Obama has already proposed the creation of a homeland police force that will no doubt terrorize those in the 'ultra-right' who will become the most vociferous and active opponents of his socialist regime. Hitler had a similar police force called the Gestapo Geheime Staats Polizie or Homeland State Police that terrorized the opponents of the Nazi regime," he wrote.

"In 1933 a majority of Germans voted for a demagogue who promised 'change' and seemed to be the answer to their economic and national problems. None of those voters could have foreseen that 12 years later Germany would lie in ruins and be occupied by foreign armies," he wrote.

WND previously reported Davis, frequently accompanied by young Barack Obama and his grandfather, sold marijuana and cocaine from a "Chicago style" hot dog cart in the early 1970s, according to a source.

don't make light of it Ron, socialism/communism is where we are heading fast...this is getting worse and worse everyday. Government taking over mortgages/insurance and now they will get a big stake in the automobile industry with those bail outs (hopefully not). An actual free society would quit taking over private industry....scary stuff fellas. What they should do is STOP GIVING COMPANIES MONEY!!! Let them go under if they can't make it on their own. Because we tax payers (who are paying the bills for all this crap) will NEVER see a dime and it will just end up with more government control. If I wanted some ownership in GM, I would buy their stock.

I respect everyone's opinion but I will say my head is not in the sand.

Seems though that since Obama has been President Elect a LOT of people decided to place their head in the sand and try to erase the memory of the election results and think we're doomed to communism (notice how I did not capitalize the C). Man, that's the WORST thing we could do right now.

Not accusing you and absolutely have no disrespect for your opinion, but I keep running into people that think we're doomed. It's like a plague. And there is no viable evidence whatsoever to back that thinking up. Unless your just a Republican and will discount anyone who is a Dem, Independent or otherwise.

I go back and rest my simple case on the fact that we have what we have and we can either try to work with it or not. Just sitting there and saying we're screwed, or we're doomed, or we're a Commie country now does absolutely nothing.

It's just like the Bush bashers, which I don't like either. I have issues with him, I had issues with Clinton, I had issues with the other Bush (one term wonder), I had issues with Reagan, I had issues with Carter (better off since he got out of the White House. I'd love to meet him since he's actually a reall good guy. Crummy President though), I had issues with Ford, I had issues with Nixon, I had issues with Johnson and I had issues with Kennedy. I don't remember much before then. Thank goodness.

Gee, we're still here, after all the BS and lying and the public getting screwed on taxes and treated like second rate citizens. Politicians, in my lifetime and I'm sure before, have treated themselves to a cornacopia of money and general weath at our expence. And our taxes and tax structure is just a money waster that our tax money pays for. Man, it's hard to believe that most people cannot see that.

Did any of you guys ever visit Washinton ? Holy mother of Moses. Talk about reaking of money, which came out of our pockets... You need to see that city to understand what I am talking about.

And we're paying WAY more than we should be for commodities... That should be a TOP priority for Mr. Obama and if it's not I'll have an issue with him too, besides the ones I already have.

So, like I said, no offense and no negativity to you Smokes. We need to work though this just like we have done in the past. And use the system to try and voice your opinion on your people in CONGRESS ! State reps/senators seem to take some notice to letters, phone calls and petitions. When you do contact them though you need to be objective and have your facts straight.

Did you ever contact you state's government reps in Washington ? I did and I got some shockingly nice responses back. The problem is that 1 dem and or 1 rep senator is likely not going to affect changes on their own. The thing is though is that they seem to kind of listen. No response from our ass in the IL Governor's office though. What a shocker (not). People elect him twice and then want to throw him out a year after his second term started. The 'people' never should have elected him for a second term to begin with. That's another story though.

At this point in my life the only thing that ticks me off about people who run around talking politics are the ones that do not vote.

    Did you vote Smokes ?

Hey Hook, Socialism in a certain form, has been in this country since WAY before you and I were born.
Maybe even since Smokes was born.

I heard somebody today say that the 'poor' should not be able to own a house. Exact words... What does that tell you ?

My point is that we need to figure out how to deal with it and not look back and feel sorry for ourselves.
Heck, this country's citizens do that ALL the time. 'We' sit there and go OK, things will happen and all will be OK.

Call, email and send letters to your state government officials in Washington and be objective and ask for support on what you feel is right.

Sitting around saying that we're a bunch of Commies does NOTHING.

Maybe emails, calls and letter will do nothing but don't you think that's better than sitting on an internet forum wasting your time on the subject ?

Again, good conversation and absolutely no offense to anyone. I'm just getting tired of the age old 'oh well, we're screwed' syndrome. We need to put more thought into it and so some times we can as citizens to try and steer things our way.

My buds have been buying guns like water out of a faucet. I laugh my ass off because Obama plans on increased gun 'control' (for assault weapons), NOT gun 'elimination' as item 101 on his top 100 priority list.

Overreacting is this nations worst enemy right now and probably has been since the events leading up to the invasion of Iraq. Overreacting to this is just a potential waste of money, waste of time and something that will probably give weak people heart attacks.
