    Default do it yourself plaques

    so we had a box full of our deer that werent big enough to mount and i dont have the money to buy a plaque for each one

    and i was wondering if anyone ever made their own plaques to hang the horns on ? i have a wood working class at school and was gonna try and make a bunch in there. anyone wanna point me in the right direction ?

    I don't have any pics, but a friend of mine takes a bid red cedar tree trunk and cut about a 1.5 inch thick slice. He slices it on a diagonal and lets it dry for a while. The he gives it a clear coat which really brings out the red in the cedar and then mounts the skull to that.

    It's looks really good.

    What I would do is go to wallmart and buy one of there cheap mounting plaques, lay it on a piece of cardboard and trace around it to make a pattern.
    Then you can start mass producing them.....

    that looks awesome 48 i think i might have to look into somethign like that thanks ... how does he secure the horns to the wood though ?

    with the 2 screws just to the inside of the eyes in the pic.....
    I cut things up and split them down!

    sure, drill 2 small holes and use 2 SCREWS!!!

    I don't think those are screw holes. I think those are gland passages that every deer have. Most mounts are secured from the backside through the board and into the skull.

    look like screw holes to me that is a homemade plaque not 1 from cabelas or bass pro

    They probably are but deer have holes there normally.

    I think for the ones that are just the skull plate you could epoxy a small piece wood to the under side of the skull plate and then screw through the back of the plaque into that wood.
