Generally a new cam is between $60 & $80 dollars and then you sell the old one.. or there are cams available at times on the AT classifieds for around $50 to $60.

somone told me that the apex draw lengths run 1.5 inches short... this would mean that the draw on a 28.5 would actually be like a 27... is this true?

    No...

Like all of the current Mathews, the cams run 3/8" to 1/2" longer than the listed draw length if measured AMO. Many companies take advantage of the 1/2" tolerance allowed by the IBO speed measurement...

No matter what company and bow you currently shoot it is aways a matter of importance that you measure the specific bow.

Another tip would be that bows with longer axle to axle measurements will fit differently than the short hunting bows, because of the string angle and brace height. Many times a shorter more reflex riser bow will require a longer draw length in order for the shooter to use the same reference points, giving the impression that the draw lengths are off on the cams.
