I need a new computer...
what should I get....
Dont want top of the line but would like good customer service....
I dont use it for gaming, or watching dvd's, have a couple of dvd players and ps2
I visit sites such as this one and AT, and a few others....
I would like to be able to load pics and such quickly....
I do not need it for downloading music either
again, dont want to break the bank but will spend the money if nesacary
Also when we get the new one we will be going w/ highspeed not dial up, which improve my speed I hope.....
Are the compaqs or HP"s any good....I also dont want to spend hours on the phone trying to get things solved like my boss has w/his new $3000 dell laptop.....
Also I am more looking for desk top than a laptop.....
Any help would greatly be appreciated....I cut things up and split them down!

HP + Compaq = CRAP!
Get a dell. you don't need anything super fancy but I would say get a dell. Plus if you get one of their systems that they are advertising specials on you can get a whole system for like 500.00 or so
The biggest thing I would look for is RAM. anything over 20 - 30 GB in HD space is fine, no matter what you do your not going to max out the CPU unless your gaming so whatever is offered should be good.
Video card is pretty much the same thing as processor, your not goign to max it out unless you do a lot of video editing.
For a general purpose all around PC you can't beat a Dell and their support is great.
Make sure you have broadband also, thats what will make the sites load quicker

As a former IT guy, I build all of my machines. The only expection was the last laptop I bought was an HP for my wife. 17" wide screen is very nice on the laptop. Plus I can use it around the house because it has built in wireless.
We had one problem with it and that was the transformer died but was covered under warranty. No problems since then with it.

My in laws got an HP around christmas time. Very nice and they got it on a really good sale. Came with a flat screen and everything. My brother in law and a couple guys I used to work with built there own and have really awesome setups for not alot of money. If you know someone that is good with computers maybe they can help you. Or you could be like a guy I used to work with and drop $5000.00 on an Alienware.Target: Hoyt ProElite XT3000 C2, 60# 30", CBE Quad Lite, CBE 3x .019, Trophy Taker, Easton Fatboy 400's(indoor) lightspeed 400 (outdoor)

The other thing is that when there is a problem, I would like to be able to fix it without having to call someone in or taking it somewhere......
By the way I just thought that I should also say my mom has an HP she bought 4 years ago and we have had no problems w/it except that my younger sister who still lives at home is always downloading crap and about once every 6 months i have to go over and clean the system out.....I cut things up and split them down!

Nothing wrong with that Gateway, I have had one for 4 years and have never had a problem. I did just up the memory and it didn't cost me that much to do it. Customer service and Tech support is great.www.Missouriwhitetails.com
