Default Releases and your back up

Made a mistake this weekend, I went to a 2 day shoot with only 1 release - my backup Carter Insatiable 2 was still packed with my hunting stuff at home yet.

After the 2nd practice arrow on a start of a 300 game on Saturday I missed my release pouch and the insatiable 2 hit the concrete floor thus snapping the link that the thumb knob is attached to right off. ( Only 2 arrows into the start !!!! )

I reached into my quiver with a sickening thought and then continued trying to shoot with just a sharp edge where the set screw goes thru the link another X then a bunch of let downs and a blue. I was going to pull the plug and become a spectator when 3 or 4 folks came to the line with their releases all right-handers I’m a lefty and all set to the way they like. I ended up shooting a 53 on Saturday and a 51 on Sunday with the releases that were borrowed It was hard and mentally I was strong I just hope I can repeat my past performance with my backup” NOW” that it s in my quiver.

Most of the folks there said they would never have been able to do this feat but I stayed focused and I did not change the way I trained myself to fire the release. It either went off or I let down – But it was still very tough to execute at times.

So a 53/51 X 300s will have to do for this year’s Sectionals but it’s better than a (did not finish) I have to shoot league tonight 300 round, so we will see if everything is cool Vegas is this week also

So if you have a 2nd release make sure your pack’in it, Releases don’t even compare to shoes when it comes to back tension as far as being personal.

boy.. i hate when that happens. sounds like it worked out fair at least. it is crummy to leave a release at home, when you just drove 40 minutes to go hunt, when you just drove and hour to shoot a tourney... that's all i have to say about that...

at least there you can buy a match to the one you have with all the vendors.

I'm bringing my busted one along, Forrest Carter should be able to rebuild it in Vegas. then I will have a backup for my backup

Iv'e dropped mine a few already to - it was kinda sick to see the thumb knob and part of the link go rolling one way and the release bouncing the other.

    JDX,

That's tough luck. But you hung in there and stayed mentally strong and shot better than most of us could with our primary release!

This is the reason that I've started hanging my release from a string around my neck.

I use D loop string and it looks a little funny, but they never hit the floor.

That just what I was thinking. A guy can shoot a 300 60X but misses his release pouch right at his waist.

Glad to hear you held up and shot it through. Nice shootin by the way. You Lefty's kill me.

A lot of people would have quit or spent the rest of the day whinging about it, sounds like you toughed it out and got on with it, good on ya.
I haven't got a spare release, after reading that I think I'll get one!
